Everyday we meet business owners, professionals, artists and creatives. Photographers, florists, realtors and more. They might come from different backgrounds, work in different industries, have varying personalities, and have vastly different income and educational profiles, but the one thing we’ve seen over and over again is that most people have a unique and special reason for why they do what they do. From a realtor helping families afford the first home he always wished for as a kid to a photographer using her skills to give a voice and face to victims who feel voiceless, we have been blown away by what happens when you just ask people a simple question – why do you do what you do?

The story behind our mission at MyCo Planet is rooted in a personal experience and my passion for growing food. A few years ago, I was searching for fresh gourmet mushrooms, particularly Lion’s Mane, for my own use but couldn’t find them in the local grocery stores. It became clear to me that there was a gap in the market for these high-quality, fresh mushrooms. Instead of waiting for someone else to fill that void, I decided to take matters into my own hands and started growing them myself. Read more>>

The intention of my business is to help people have a healthier self esteem of themselves. When I was studying sociology at Morehouse College, my focus was on the likelihood of low income students graduating college within four years. I decided to explain my research through a theory called Cultural Capital. Cultural Capital is the non material capital people use to gain access to different spaces and to attain resources. Since I’ve started my business I have created a space where people I have capital with come to and form meaningful relationships. I have used my business as a way to bring people together in a sense. My mission statement is important to me because baking is more than just creating delicious treats or having the best ingredients. For me, it’s about love, family, and the simple joy of sharing something made from the heart. It’s honoring the traditions and memories that have shaped me into who I am today. Some of my fondest memories are tied to the kitchen. Like learning cherished recipes that my grandmother was stingy with (ask my family…iykyk..ha). The memories of getting my first easy bake oven and making my brother try everything (I’m sure he’s much more happier with my baking skills than when I was 5). I still smile thinking about making “sticky stuff” (my version of rice krispy treats) with my little cousin. He would sit on the counter, Read more>>

The mission behind Swing Fore MS is deeply personal. Being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at 29, I’ve experienced firsthand the challenges and uncertainties that come with living with an autoimmune disease. My mission is not only to raise awareness and fund research for MS but also to show that no matter what life throws at you, you never give up. It’s about getting back up every time you get knocked down and continuing to fight—for yourself, for others, and for future generations who shouldn’t have to face the same struggles. This mission is meaningful to me because I don’t want my kids or anyone else to worry about this disease. Read more>>

Catalyst Community Consulting’s mission is to spark positive change for our clients. Seemingly simple but hard work to do. It’s been my mission not just for this business but for my life. I’ve dedicated my career to the public sector, serving my country, state, and county at different levels of government. I think it comes from a deep sense of responsibility and a high value for justice. Growing up I’d watch the nightly news with my dad over a bowl of ice cream and I witnessed the immense need, the injustice. and the politics of it all. I came away wanting to be part of the movement to make the world a better place. Read more>>

The mission behind Meraki goes beyond giving a beauty service to our clients. The approach is authenticity with genuine care for our clients. When Meraki was evolving, I loved to create a space where clients felt heard and understood; that it was not another appointment. It was a creation of relationship, and understanding while clients enjoyed receiving their services. As Meraki evolved and expanded to a commercial building, the mission expanded to create a space where clients of all walks of life, felt safe and comfortable. South Bend did not have a high end spa or beauty business at the time where people could receive high end quality services. Aside from this, the Spanish community did not have a high end spa business that they could enjoy all while feeling understood. Read more>>

Our mission is “to change the perception of plant-based food one bowl at a time”.
Ten years ago I read a book about animal ethics, learned about nutrition watching the film Forks Over Knives and was made aware of factory farms, where most of the animals we eat are raised. After gaining this knowlege in a short amount of time, I decided to try eating plant-based for 40 days and quickly gained energy, lost weight, saved money… I knew it served me well, so I continued and still eat plant-based today! The inspiration for this mission stems from a deep recognition of the challenges facing today’s youth—lack of direction, financial instability, and limited access to critical life skills. Many adolescents grow up without clear guidance on how to navigate their future, often falling into cycles of economic hardship, poor decision-making, and underdeveloped leadership abilities. I have two missions. My first mission is to help families in the low income bracket be able to afford pictures because when I was growing up, I also lived in a low income family and it was definitely hard not being able to share in the joys with my friends when they had family pictures done or when prom season came and we could only get phone pictures. I also saw the toll it took on my parents because they were working their butts off and still couldn’t afford to capture some of the big moments. I believe that everyone deserves to have pictures and be able to capture the special moments in their lives no matter how big or small! That is why I like to work with my clients and do everything I possibly can to help them out. Read more>>

Women of Praize was born out of a deeply personal experience. Nearly 20 years ago, I was having one of those days where nothing seemed to go right, and I felt completely alone in my struggles. IAs a woman of color working in politics, I faced challenges that many around me couldn’t fully understand. Seeking solace, I reached out to a few of my Capitol Hill colleagues—other women of color who knew the pressures we faced—for a word of prayer. That simple act of reaching out turned into something transformative. What began as a small prayer gathering quickly grew into a sanctuary, a sisterhood, and a source of strength for women of color navigating the demanding world of politics. Read more>>

Throughout my life I have realized how much people love to take time for themselves and pamper themselves with a good snack, let’s say it’s a time when we hug ourselves. My story is what turned into my mission. I started my company 4F Media to publish my first book, Emerging With Wings. I shared my story of inner healing to help others. But, the response to my story revealed the extensive issue of emotional trauma in society. I hadn’t expected that. Like most trauma survivors, I blamed myself for my problems and minimized the causes. That kind of response is what feeds the toxicity of trauma and silently kills people. Yes, I did say kills, but please stay with me. Unaddressed trauma is detrimental and leads to various health issues. Some chronic, some severe, and many terminal, like heart disease and cancer. I created my mission statement—”My mission is to support women in releasing themselves from financial concern so they can say ‘yes’ more than they say ‘no.’”—because of the example set by my mother.
I was raised by a strong single mom who always found a way to make things happen for my sister and me. Despite the challenges, she made sure we could experience the best—taking us on vacations, putting us in private school, and eventually moving into an apartment she owned. She didn’t just make ends meet; she built a life where we didn’t feel the weight of financial limitations. Read more>>

Both Pafumi Boutique and Visionary Start Smart were born from deeply personal experiences and a genuine desire to empower others—especially women, mothers, and aspiring entrepreneurs who, like me, have faced overwhelming odds but still dream big.
Pafumi Boutique was inspired during a season in my life when I was transitioning from surviving to thriving. I realized how much confidence, self-worth, and power comes from simply showing up as your best self—starting with how you dress. I didn’t just want to sell clothes; I wanted to build a brand that empowers corporate women and everyday professionals to feel unstoppable. Read more>>
