We recently connected with Jennifer Kaplan and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Our mission isn’t just about securing public relations opportunities for clients. At its core, our mission is about impact. When our clients share that their story, segment or coverage led to expanded awareness of their organization’s brand or mission, and helped meet their objectives (donations, sales, attendance, awareness), that gets us so excited about the work we do. Facilitating our client’s exposure and impact within the community, and sharing their unique story, is the drive behind Evolve PR & Marketing’s mission.
Jennifer, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My mom always said I was born doing PR. I was always on the go and loved being around people as a kid. In high school, I was voted Senior Most Talkative (a fitting title). In college, I studied communications and utilized those skills in sales for a short time before focusing fully on PR.
Our team helps organizations and individuals tell their stories in a way that builds trust, drives visibility and creates meaningful connections. We work with companies across multiple industries to elevate their brands, manage their reputations and engage their target audiences.
What makes Evolve stand out the most is not what we do, but how we do it. Many PR agencies can pitch a media outlet or secure an opportunity. It is our relationships and reputation that set us apart. I will never forget learning early on; people do business with people they like and people they trust. Think of a restaurant experience you’ve had where you are warmly greeted, addressed by name, a staff member has a genuine exchange with you and remembers your favorite dish or beverage. Allowing a client or customer to feel seen, special and valued is so important. The feeling someone has when working with you is the thing that they remember.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The onset of COVID ushered in a time of resilience and adaptation for all. There are a certain number of risks one assumes as an entrepreneur, but with a situation like COVID, no one knew what to expect. Every single day was different. Situations, guidelines and protocols changed rapidly. You had to pivot. If you didn’t, you wouldn’t be able to sustain. Everyone had to change what they were doing. While we had typically only experienced the usual challenges business ownership brings, COVID brought the awareness that we were not immune to situations that would be out of our control. We weren’t in our typical state of ease and flow; instead, we were forced to navigate uncertainty and maneuver through new challenges.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I love to be an active part of my community. Whether supporting my alma mater, a new business, a local charity or nonprofit, the arts or any community initiative, I value participation and getting to know others in the community. I always try to do good and support where I can. I’m not perfect. I know it is impossible to make everyone happy, but isn’t it easier to be kind and champion others? I think so.
