We were lucky to catch up with Joy Park recently and have shared our conversation below.
Joy, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to help the Indie authors of the world—wether that be helping them take some of the weight off their shoulders by doing tasks that would enable them to have more time to write, or even doing something as simple as reading and reviewing!
Joy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Joy, I’m a stay at home mother to a 3 year old boy, and reading has been a huge part of my life since I was a child.
In October of 2025, I started a book related Instagram account just for fun. Originally, I had thought I would just post pretty pictures of books online and become an “aesthetic” book page for people to look at. At some point, I saw that one of the Indie authors I was following was having ARC reader signups. At the time, the only thing I knew about ARC readers was that they got early copies of books. So to be totally transparent, I started for selfish reasons. I thought it’d just be really cool to receive a book early so I signed up.
Fast forward five months and now I’m a part of 12 street teams and 4 content teams. And I absolutely love doing it. Now that I’ve had some real insight on what the process is like to release a book, supporting Indie authors has become a huge passion of mine.
I have a couple friends who also share the same passion, and now together we aid authors in any way possible. It could go anywhere from doing something simple like recommending their book to friends, to starting a whole podcast where we interview authors in hopes it would help them gain the recognition that they deserve. One of our goals for the year is to also add on official PR services to our brand.
I think what sets us apart from others is our genuine friendship. We came together because of our mutual love of reading and helping others, so if a certain community could do that for us then I feel like we’d be great for helping others achieve the same success. I would also say our different personalities really mesh well together, not only in terms of getting along but also in a working sense. Where one or some of us may have a “weakness”, there’s always someone else who would consider it a strong suit.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met my co-hosts/future business partners through a couple of mutual street teams that we are on together. To those of you who don’t know what a street team is, it’s basically someone who continuously helps promote a book before and maybe even after release. Whereas, an ARC reader is usually solely for reading and reviewing.
The friendship started off pretty mundane. We’d talk in the group chats to eachother fairly often, but eventually we started messaging eachother separately out of the groupchat as well. Then at some point we realized just how well we got along and that we have the same goals in the bookish community. So the three of us decided to make our own little groupchat, and it’s only gone uphill from there.
How did you build your audience on social media?
The biggest way I’ve built my audience is by joining a bunch of teams. A single ARC or Street team could have hundreds of people. So, sometimes when you’re all working towards a common goal it’s easy to want to support eachother as well as the author! Besides that, I’m on all the main social media platforms and I find that it can help to not just “rely” on one sole app. There are so many amazing creators out there, but sometimes you need to push yourself into a new atmosphere to discover them all.
However, not everyone wants to go down the ARC route and that’s more than okay! My advice to those who don’t or to those who are just starting out on social media is: Be consistent, engage with others, and don’t put anything out that you aren’t 100% in love with. It’s important to know yourself, know when it’s time to take a break, or to just stand your ground when something you want to post might not be what’s considered “trendy” or “aesthetic”. Whatever feels natural and makes you happy is perfect.
