We’ve always tried to ask the questions that matter but that are too awkward for people to ask their friends, family and coworkers without seeming dramatic. One of those questions is about mission and purpose – when’s the last time you asked a friend what their mission was? Too often we don’t talk about our own missions and don’t ask those close to us about theirs with the result being that our missions remain secret. Are you just a doctor or are you a doctor who wants to be there for patients in the way you wished your father’s doctor had been? People have incredible and meaningful missions, and we hope our conversations asking folks about their mission can inspire more such conversations in your life.

The Women In Wine Foundation was born from a deep desire to create spaces where women could heal, grow, and lead — not just in the wine industry, but in their personal lives as well. Wine, much like women, carries depth, diversity, and resilience shaped by its environment. I’ve spent my life helping others build their dreams, and I realized how often women, especially women of color, were overlooked in industries that celebrate connection, creativity, and culture. My journey into photography began with a love for landscapes—capturing the natural beauty around me was my way of connecting with something greater. But everything changed when my wife became pregnant. In that powerful moment, I realized just how important it is to preserve memories—not just for ourselves, but for future generations. I wanted my daughter to one day look back and feel the love, joy, and emotion we lived through. Read more>>

Chatting on the phone with a Veteran Marine friend, he expressed to me that he was going to do himself harm. Struggling with mental illness, he had a gun in hand to take his own life. This is why we began our selfless journey serving our brave as they sacrificed so much for us. Read more>>

The mission of Black Business Enterprises (BBE) is deeply personal and stems directly from my own lived experiences. Moving to the United States with very little, I quickly learned that access and opportunity aren’t always evenly distributed. My initial success cleaning homes wasn’t just about hard work; it was also about the kindness of one person who saw my potential and offered support, including crucial financial literacy skills. This experience ignited a fire in me. I realized that entrepreneurship could be a powerful vehicle for change, but that many individuals, particularly those from marginalized communities, face systemic barriers in accessing the very resources needed to start and thrive. Brittany – Growing up I spent a lot of time in bookstore. I just loved the way they made me feel, they’re magical. Bookstores are for everyone—kids and adults, whether you’re with friends or alone. Our tagline at The Book Bird is “Read and Take Flight!” because reading opens our minds and allows us to soar and that’s what we hope our customers as well as my own children get to experience when they walk through our doors. For 12 years, we served our community, working tirelessly to educate and guide teens towards a brighter future. Read more>>

I am a multifaceted woman breaking barriers both in technology and in wine.
In the wine industry, I created the first global education company focused on providing education to Latinas about wine. On the other hand, as a wine educator for private markets, I often hear that seeing a Latina Sommelier is refreshing. There are not many, and on top of that, we are paid less. The beverage and alcohol industry is intimidating for women and minorities, and education is often the core of all. Read more>>

Indie Road Map was created with one clear purpose: to help musicians build sustainable, independent careers, without being taken advantage of along the way.

My name is Anthony Jenkins, and I started Next Level because cannabis saved my life. After losing my job, my car, and my home in the 2007 recession, I hit an emotional rock bottom. I was eventually diagnosed with anxiety and, like so many others, prescribed medication that did little to help—and often made things worse. Ethics, morals, and integrity have always been the most important values to me. My business, Women Waken, was born out of enthusiasm, excitement and passion about the possibilities for our experience of ourselves and the world, and what it could become with a shift in its dynamics. If you listen to any teachings of spiritual guides, mystics, or even historians and sociologists you begin to hear a theme about the future of our world and what the key ingredients are for its success. It is the idea of a reintroduction of the feminine qualities that have been so largely lacking in our society. Women Waken is not about a distinction between men and women, it is an invitation for all individuals to allow themselves to Waken to the feminine qualities within which have been repressed and minimized for most of our known history. The story behind my mission is rooted in a desire to make marketing more human. After years in the corporate world, I realized that so many people — especially small business owners and real estate professionals — were being pushed toward cookie-cutter strategies that didn’t reflect who they really were. I wanted to change that. I started my business to help people tell their story in a way that feels honest, elevated, and true to them. Because when your brand actually sounds like you, everything starts to click — clients connect, business grows, and marketing becomes something you’re proud of. Read more>>

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been the go-to person for advice — on love, career, and all the messy, beautiful intersections in between. A few years ago, I was standing at the gate, waiting for my flight to board, and I looked over and saw a woman sitting by herself talking on the phone. She was crying loudly and alone. I watched her for a few moments, and I realized I had to do something. I wanted to do something nice to try to help. So, I reached into my wallet and pulled out a card. On the back, I wrote, “It’ll be okay. And you will be, too.” I walked over, looked her in the eyes, and handed her the card. When we adopted Elvis we were told he had a digestive disease and wasn’t properly digesting his food or getting the appropriate nutrients out of it so we set out to find the easiest to digest food for him. That’s when we tried feeding him a raw food diet – and in just one meal he was a different dog! All of a sudden he had energy, he wagged his tail (a first since we had gotten him) and overall seemed happier & healthier. Even our veterinarian couldn’t believe the change.
