We recently connected with Ximena and have shared our conversation below.
Ximena, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I have always believed that genuinely connecting with people makes all the difference. That belief gave birth to the purpose behind Malabar Sound.
I have always been passionate about connecting people — not just through services, but through authentic relationships that create real impact. After years working in public relations, I realized that communication often felt transactional, lacking the emotional and human connection that audiences seek today.
In 2020, I decided to move to the United States to continue studying the industry and gaining new perspectives. It was during this journey that Malabar Sound’s mission became clear to me: to master the art of communicating who we truly are.
Malabar Sound was born from the belief that communication must be strategic, yes — but above all, genuine. This mission is meaningful to me because every brand, artist, or company has a story that deserves to be told in a human, real, and resonant way.
Every day, our work reminds me why this mission matters: in a world saturated with noise, authenticity is the true currency of connection.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Malabar Sound was born from my passion for authentic communication. I’m the founder, and together with my team, we lead a boutique agency that specializes in connecting brands and artists with their audiences in a strategic, yet always genuine way.
My journey in the industry began in 2014 when I discovered that I loved helping others build their public voice and stand out in a highly competitive market. After several years working with artists and brands in Colombia, I decided to move to the United States in 2020 to explore new opportunities and open my perspective on a global level — both for my career and for Malabar Sound.
At Malabar Sound, we focus on offering media campaigns, strategic marketing, public relations, brand management, and crisis management for both musical talents and corporate brands.
More than just “selling” a message, our work is about building authentic narratives that truly connect with people. We help our clients communicate in a real, genuine, and differentiated way.
What truly sets us apart is our close, personalized approach and our genuine commitment to authenticity. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions — every client has their own story, and their communication should be as unique as they are.
We also deeply believe in the power of shared success: when our clients thrive, we thrive. Their growth is our growth, and every milestone they achieve fuels our passion to keep building together.
I am incredibly proud to see how our clients strengthen their projects and reach their goals, knowing that we have been a meaningful part of their journey.
What I would love for you to know about Malabar Sound is that we’re not just an agency — we are a true strategic partner who understands that communication is much more than just “saying something.” It’s about building real identity, real connections, and lasting relationships.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Moving to the United States at the beginning of 2020 was, without a doubt, one of the biggest — and most challenging — decisions of my life. I arrived full of excitement, with clear goals and a strong sense of purpose, ready to carve out a new path in a new country. I gave myself three months to adapt, learn the market, and decide if this was truly the right place to keep growing.
But just as everything was beginning, the pandemic hit. Overnight, the world changed. Uncertainty took over, plans were put on hold, and like everyone else, I felt the fear of not knowing what the future would bring
Despite it all, we chose not to stop. Together with my team, we moved quickly to adapt, embracing the digital space and finding new ways to connect. We started working with media outlets and audiences across different territories, and slowly but surely, what seemed like a huge obstacle turned into an open door to global opportunities.
Today, Malabar Sound has media allies in various parts of the world, and every small milestone reminds me that resilience is not just about holding on — it’s about finding new ways to move forward, even when the path looks nothing like what you first imagined
This journey taught me that trusting your purpose, leaning on your team, and keeping your faith strong during hard times can turn the greatest challenges into your biggest opportunities
And I’m still in that process of constant learning. The profession I chose isn’t something you can master with databases alone; it’s about getting to know people, making real connections. Every day, I continue learning, and each new conversation, each new connection, adds something valuable to my growth and evolution.
