We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Meagan Ballard a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Meagan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Indie Road Map was created with one clear purpose: to help musicians build sustainable, independent careers, without being taken advantage of along the way.
We see too many talented artists locked into one-sided contracts, overwhelmed by expensive management services, or struggling to find guidance they could trust. Too often, the music industry seemed designed to make artists feel powerless, financially, creatively, and professionally.
So Indie Road Map was built as a response: a resource that puts the artist first. We don’t believe in long-term contracts that restrict your freedom. Instead, we offer flexible, project-based support tailored to your needs and goals. Our pricing is transparent and fair, and our services are designed to actually help, not to profit off confusion or dependency.
From marketing and release planning to career coaching and professional development, every tool we offer is designed to empower. We don’t just manage, we collaborate, guide, and listen. Our team works with you, not above you.
Most importantly, we want every artist who works with us to feel like they’re not alone on this journey. Building a career in music is hard enough, you deserve a team that respects your vision and believes in your potential.
We’re not here to own your path. We’re here to help you navigate it.

Meagan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Meagan Ballard, and I’ve been deeply immersed in the music industry for most of my life. My journey began in middle school when I picked up the saxophone—a decision that led to solo and chamber competition wins throughout high school and eventually earned me a music scholarship at the University of Oklahoma. There, I pursued a degree in Saxophone Performance with a minor in Entrepreneurship, allowing me to explore both the artistic and business sides of the industry.
During college, my interests began to expand beyond classical performance. I became involved with local jazz ensembles as well as indie and alternative rock bands, where I started writing lyrics and collaborating with other musicians to bring original songs and albums to life. Performing live and being part of that creative process opened my eyes to the realities of being an independent artist—the passion, the hustle, and the many hats musicians have to wear just to stay afloat.
I realized how much I enjoyed helping my fellow musicians behind the scenes—whether it was promoting them on social media, booking shows, or helping run a summer saxophone camp. That experience sparked my love for artist support and management. I knew I wanted to make a meaningful difference by helping artists manage the many moving parts of their careers.
That’s why I’m passionate about my work at Indie Road Map. We’re not just another music management company—we’re a support system built for the modern, independent musician. Every aspect of our platform is intentionally designed to meet artists where they are, providing accessible tools, real human guidance, and practical resources that simplify the complex world of music business. We understand how isolating and overwhelming it can feel to handle everything on your own—branding, booking, releasing, promoting—while still trying to stay creative and inspired. Indie Road Map helps lift that weight. We give artists the freedom to focus on what they do best—writing, performing, and connecting with their audience—while offering a reliable, knowledgeable and personable manager to help guide the business side. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that the work I do every day contributes to someone’s ability to chase their dream with clarity, confidence, and support they can trust.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
On a weekly basis, I make it a priority to personally check in with each of my clients, whether it’s through a message or offering a phone call to catch up and discuss current goals, upcoming projects, or any new challenges they may be facing. These regular touchpoints aren’t just about task updates, they’re about building genuine, long-term relationships. I take the time to really learn about each artist as both a professional and a person, so I can offer support that’s not only strategic but also compassionate and personalized.
For me, artist management goes beyond logistics and business strategy. It’s also about creating a relationship built on trust, mutual respect, and shared passion. I want every client to know that I’m not just a manager, I’m a partner in their journey. They’re trusting me with a part of their career, and that’s a responsibility I take seriously. By being consistent, available, and invested in their individual growth, I aim to create a space where clients feel confident, valued, and truly heard.
This approach not only strengthens professional trust, but it also fosters loyalty because the artists know they can rely on me, not just when things are going well, but also when the unexpected happens. In a world where the music industry can feel uncertain or impersonal, I strive to offer connection, stability, and encouragement. That kind of authenticity is what builds long-lasting client relationships and a strong, loyal community.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the opportunity to both share my own creative voice and help others grow and succeed in theirs. Music is deeply personal, but it’s also incredibly collaborative, and I’ve found so much fulfillment in being part of other artists’ journeys. Whether I’m lending a track to a friend who’s practicing mixing and mastering, offering guidance on how to navigate social media, or simply sitting down to share and enjoy music together, those shared experiences are where the magic happens.
What drives me is the sense of community and mutual support that comes from creating with others. It’s not just about making music for myself anymore, it’s about empowering others to do the same, in their own unique way. Watching someone bring their ideas to life, collaborate with new people, and gain confidence in their art because of a little support I could provide, that’s incredibly meaningful to me. That’s why I continue to do this work: to lift others up while staying connected to the joy and creativity that brought me to music in the first place.
It’s incredibly fulfilling to see artists I work with develop their sound, connect with their audience, and gain confidence in their path, especially knowing I played a role in helping them get there. That blend of creativity, collaboration, and mentorship is what keeps me inspired. I’m not just managing tasks, I’m helping people tell their stories through music, just like I’ve always loved doing myself.
