One of the challenges we’ve seen to true equality of opportunity is that schools and books often can’t (or choose not) offer access to one of the most equalizing resources – first hand stories of how successful entrepreneurs made their ideas a reality. If you grew up in a family or community that had many successful entrepreneurs you may have been lucky to hear many conversations and stories about starting and executing on an idea, but there are millions of people across the country who haven’t had the same advantage and so our hope here is to create a space where those stories can be told in a more public forum for the benefit of any and every aspiring entrepreneur.

How It All Began – The Story of My Thousand Words It didn’t start as a business. It started as a moment. I was holding a book—one that had lived a full life, its pages worn, its story already told—and I couldn’t bring myself to throw it away. Instead, I wondered… what else could it become? That question sparked everything. Read More>>

It all started with Lady Coffea, from a very simple place: the desire to share my passion for specialty coffee in a more approachable way. I began by creating content and hosting small, intimate tastings, almost like a live laboratory. What worked online, I tested in person and what happened in those sessions came back into content. For me, it didn’t begin as a business idea, it began as a question I couldn’t ignore: what would it look like to portray women with the same reverence and grandeur that history reserved for kings and saints? I had always been drawn to classical craftsmanship, especially Renaissance techniques like water gilding. Read More>>

Like many entrepreneurs, my journey didn’t start with a business plan—it started with a simple idea and a lot of curiosity. I’ve always loved candles. They create atmosphere, comfort, and a sense of peace in a space. But over time I started paying more attention to what was actually in many store-bought candles and how they burned. That curiosity turned into research. Read More>>

My work lives at the intersection of music and storytelling. My dad always says Rome was not built in a day and this is something I always remember as I continue building my business. The idea and the execution happened at the same time, and I didn’t realize either was occurring until it was already well underway. It started with a Facebook group, a fantasy football-style game built around American Idol. People joined, they started asking for recaps, I wrote the recaps, the recaps got better, someone said start a blog, I started the blog. Read More>>

When I first started building my business, it wasn’t some big, perfectly planned idea. It actually came rather scrappy. Golf had been a huge part of my life for years. I’ve never been someone who spends a long time planning before starting. My instinct is usually to build a simple version first and then begin. I prefer to learn through doing.
