One of the best things about video games is the ability to restart – you can use your learnings to move faster and avoid obstacles. We often think about what we would do differently if we were starting over in business and we figured others probably think about this as well and so we asked the community to share their thoughts with us.

If I were to start Beyond Event San Diego today, with the knowledge I have now, here are a few key things I’d do differently: Emphasize Technology Integration from Day One: I’d focus on building an even stronger foundation in creative technology tools, ensuring that we have the software, tools, and platforms necessary to streamline the creation of unique event experiences early on. This would allow for greater efficiency and scalability. Develop a Strong Online Presence Earlier: Creating a strong digital brand presence, with a well-optimized website, engaging social media content, and consistent SEO practices, would be an early priority. Investing in digital marketing tools would help the brand grow faster. Read more>>

Instead of following the traditional marketing funnel, I would’ve ditched it completely. If I could turn back time, (in the words of Cher), I would focus on speaking to people who are already actively looking for solutions versus targeting those who don’t even know they have a problem. This makes selling so much easier. Read more>>

If I were to start over today, one key change would be prioritizing face-to-face networking and building in-person connections. While I’ve learned a lot through online interactions, I believe immersing myself more in the industry and learning directly from others in person would have accelerated my growth. This is actually a goal of mine for the upcoming quarter, as I recognize the value of building stronger, real-world relationships. It was especially challenging when I first started my business during the 2020 COVID pandemic, but now I see how important that element is to creating lasting success. Read more>>

If I were starting over today, I’d definitely do some things differently. In the beginning, I spent way too much time trying to plan everything perfectly before making any big moves. Now I know it’s way better to just get started and improve little by little. Getting 1% better every day is a lot more valuable than standing still, overthinking every decision. That being said, I also believe that everyone needs to go through their own experience. It’s how we learn and grow. But if I could give myself one piece of advice from the start, it would be this: don’t set your expectations too high. Dream big, sure, but stay realistic. The small, consistent steps forward really add up over time. Read more>>

If I were starting over today, I would go back far enough that my college major wouldn’t have been dietetics, but photography. Back then, I was afraid of photography. Darkrooms and developing films seemed complicated. Of course, many other things I did were scarier and more difficult. So, I would say, just do the difficulty that goes with your passions. When digital cameras came out, it was a whole new ballgame. If I were to do it over again, I would have taken photography classes then instead of taking the slow road of being self-taught. The information on the internet is wonderful, but there is something about actually taking a class and getting a degree. I think ultimately it takes less time to get the key knowledge. I don’t think it is ever too late to take a class and learn more. I would also strive to connect with more photographers to ask for their advice. Read more>>

If I were to start over knowing everything I know now, I would definitely push myself more with being consistent with posting on social media and doing different styles of content to promote myself. This being a social media new age in life, everyone is connected to their phone, so making sure you reach and connect to the public and advertise yourself. I would have loved to have started a website earlier on or even start with a YouTube channel and worked up from there. I would also challenge myself to have more self discipline, have more patience and just practice every chance I get, have a strong determination earlier when I was first starting out. Read more>>

If I started over today in my business, I would accept every opportunity I can to get out of my comfort zone and learn new things. Too often when I first started in this industry I would decline opportunities because I didn’t think they would get me anywhere, or I would sike myself out of doing them out of fear of failure. I would also remind myself to stay consistent in content creation and take advantage of the times that my content did do well, and not fall off the radar. The biggest lesson I have for anyone starting in content creation is: Consistency is key. If you are consistent in what you do, and you are passionate about what you are doing, you’re unbeatable. If I were to embark on my journey as a spray tan artist all over again, I would dedicate more time to education before stepping into the role of a provider. In many states, you can start offering spray tans without any legal qualifications. While I took the initiative to research and get certified in Kentucky, I soon realized there was a vast amount of knowledge I hadn’t yet grasped, much of which became apparent only after I began my professional journey. This experience has underscored the importance of thorough preparation and continuous learning in mastering this industry. Read more>>

Knowing what I know today, starting over for me would mean for me to know my worth and understand the difference of being confident not arrogant. God resist the proud. but gives grace to the humble, (James 4:6).. I had to learn that you must promote your cabilities and expertise and not rely on your manager or executive leadership to call your name. It may never happen. You have to take the initiative and take control of your career, What that means is that you might have to write up your own out-of-cycle bonus and also compete for the leadership positions that others may not have your name in mind. but know with confidence that if God has called you, He will give you the grace to fulfill it. If I had to start over again, the first thing I’d do differently is find a good coach or mentor right away. It’s one of the smartest moves you can make to reach your goals faster, and it’s so important to trust the process they guide you through. I’m not just saying this because I’m a coach—I know firsthand how much of a difference it makes. These days, we’re bombarded with advice and information from everywhere, and it can feel overwhelming. It’s easy to get lost in all the noise, but that’s where a mentor comes in. They help you cut through the clutter and show you a clear path to follow. Read more>>
