We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cameryn Jamison. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cameryn below.
Cameryn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I were to start over knowing everything I know now, I would definitely push myself more with being consistent with posting on social media and doing different styles of content to promote myself. This being a social media new age in life, everyone is connected to their phone, so making sure you reach and connect to the public and advertise yourself. I would have loved to have started a website earlier on or even start with a YouTube channel and worked up from there. I would also challenge myself to have more self discipline, have more patience and just practice every chance I get, have a strong determination earlier when I was first starting out.
Cameryn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Before the thought of nails I really wanted to be a baker, along the lines of wedding baker/cake specialist. Baking was my first big hobby for years and then i had a change of pace. I never thought I’d become a nail tech, but I picked up nails as a hobby in middle school and never dropped it. I was a sever nail bitter and my mom did not allow me to get my nails done, so I found a loop hole and learned how to do them myself. I started with the diy kit from Target and built from there. What really kept my love was making press on nails in my down time, I loved the designs I could do and how much better I got day by day. By the time I had graduated college I was still doing my own nails so my mother had convinced me to find a school and make it a career and that’s exactly what I did.
Services I offer are full sets, manicures, pedicures & a sense of therapy. I offer a range of ways to do nails such as Gelx, acrylic, polygel, builder gel & hard gel. Products I offer outside of services would be my after care kits, press on nails and a few other accessory goodies. The aftercare kit includes a sugar scrub, body butter, cuticle oil & a foot or hand mask, all of it is to help keep the skin soft & moisturized, while the press on nails are a quicker & cheaper alternative to having nails then and there to be ready for any occasion on the spot. I am currently a salon tech as well as a mobile nail tech so i am constantly on the go, but if you love what you do, you dont think of it as work.
When it comes to my clients I try my best to help them strengthen and grow out their nails, keep their nails healthy & greenie free, and keep them as stylish as possible. A healthy happy client is the best client. I think that what sets me apart is my care for my clients and the attention I try to give. I always want to give my clients a safe space to open up whether it be about something that is going on with their nails or personal life, etc. I want my clients to feel comfortable with me.
I’m proud of how far I’ve gotten especially moving to a new town and starting from complete scratch. I moved to Bakersfield from Monterey 5 years ago and have gotten my career off the floor and slowly thriving. I moved here to go to beauty school & got stuck here due to COVID and because of that I knew I had to even harder to become a success for myself. I’m hoping in the next 5 years I make quadruple what I make now and make it into a six figure number for myself. The progress so far is good & soon to be great!
I hope to expand my brand and reach a larger following of people, I would also like to expand on the products I offer and continue to grow in that aspect.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience for your platform is easier said than done but its rewarding to see yourself grow and reaching so many people. The biggest thing about building an audience is knowing who you are trying to appeal to & what demographic you’re trying to reach. Since L’m a nail tech i have to reach a specific crowd and have to keep up with a certain competition with in the industry.
Personally I’ve tried to reach my audience by following people who may live near the same area as me or friends of friends, as well as post everyday and use hashtags to also reach people from all around. Being consistent is key when it comes to posting and advertising yourself.
My biggest advice would be to have drafts ready to be posted at anytime. It makes life so much easier especially on days where you maybe didn’t take a client but still need to post content. like other peoples posts & get into your community.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with my clients via texting & calling them, reminding them of their upcoming appointment or if they are due to make an appointment. I also like to keep my loyal clients in the loop for any deals i may have, birthday specials or any packages deals, everyone likes a special deal. The way I try to keep my clients is by offering a discount on their 5th visit with me, keeps them happy & coming back.
