Social media can be a really powerful way to connect with and build deeper relationships with your audience – but it can be extremely time consuming. So, we asked some folks we admire to share how they manage their social profiles and whether they’ve hired professionals to help.

Yes, I do manage all my social media (SM). I do the R&D, filming, editing, posting, and maintenance. I started this account for fun in college, so I’ve always done it myself, and it has morphed into what it is today. It wasn’t until a year or so ago that I decided to take things more seriously, learn more about editing, and start posting more often. I did hire some friends to help me build a website, which we hope to launch by the new year!! Like everything, SM was a huge learning curve. It often doesn’t make sense why one post hit and another didn’t. Anyone who makes part of their income/career on social media knows it is not as easy as it looks. SM is a weird game, and sometimes, it feels like you have to be playing the game 24/7 to succeed and see results. For better or for worse, it is hard to be a business owner/developer without having social media these days. So, as much as I tried to resist it, learning how to navigate social media was inevitable. Some things I’ve learned in the last few years of sharing my life and recipes online: Read more>>

I manage my own social media and it has been integrated with my personal social media. I wanted to humanize my work that I share on my instagram while also not committing to managing my work as a “Brand”. I feel as though my decision has allowed people to trust my work because they get glimpses of the person behind the work. A big portion of my freelance work has come through word of mouth/instagram and very little has been due to outreach or sales. I believe if you are a sole contractor who offers something (Creative, Photographer, Florist, Event Planner) there is possibly a merit to integrating your personal and business sharing habits in a way that feels genuine and not invasive for the purpose of humanizing your brand. After managing my own social media for over 17 years, I realized in the fall of 2023 that it was time to make a change to better align with the growth of my real estate business in the Coastal Bend. To stay competitive and provide the best service to my clients, I decided to hire an assistant to handle social media posting, content creation, and marketing. This decision has been a game-changer, freeing up about four hours of my day. Now, I can focus on critical aspects of my business, like networking, lead generation, and nurturing client relationships. Read more>>

I manage my own social media because it allows me to keep my brand personal and authentic. As an elopement photographer who deeply cares about my couple’s story and preferences, it’s crucial what I broadcast on socials like Instagram: my posts need to reflect my style and voice, and doing it myself ensures that everything feels genuine. It’s a balancing act – I’ve learned to focus on meaningful content rather than trying to post constantly (yeah, that’s a downside, but it feels more like crafting something, which I believe to be important to my future clients). It’s more about connecting with people who resonate with my work than chasing likes or trends. Read more>>

I manage my own social media, and I strongly encourage my clients to keep social media management in-house when possible. Why? Because no one will ever care about or understand the nuances of your business the way you do. Social media is a powerful tool for storytelling and connecting with your audience, and it requires authenticity and passion to make a meaningful impact. Read more>>

When I first started, I found social media to be a bit of a challenge. I don’t usually post much in my personal life, so shifting to posting regularly for my new business was a bit of a learning curve. Coming up with content was tough, especially since I’m still building up my photo library. To make things easier, I decided to hire a company to handle my social media posts. It’s been a little over two months now, and I’m happy with how things are going. I’ve gained a few more followers, and the statistics show that I’m reaching a wider audience. The cost has been reasonable and fits into my budget as a new business, and most importantly, it’s taken the pressure off me to come up with new posts every day. Read more>>
