We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alex Rodriguez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alex below.
Hi Alex, thanks for joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?
I manage my own social media and it has been integrated with my personal social media. I wanted to humanize my work that I share on my instagram while also not committing to managing my work as a “Brand”. I feel as though my decision has allowed people to trust my work because they get glimpses of the person behind the work. A big portion of my freelance work has come through word of mouth/instagram and very little has been due to outreach or sales. I believe if you are a sole contractor who offers something (Creative, Photographer, Florist, Event Planner) there is possibly a merit to integrating your personal and business sharing habits in a way that feels genuine and not invasive for the purpose of humanizing your brand.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a louisiana Native. I attended LSU and studied Graphic Design after pivoting from my initial choice of Architecture (Or ArchiTORTURE as some called it).
Through my professional career I’ve gotten to serve as a multidisciplinary Graphic Designer, Design Consultant, Art Director, Brand Director and now as a Creative Director. As my creative career has matured the most important thing I’ve learned is that through creativity, we have the power to change lives.
Today, I am focused in channeling that ethos through building and scaling brands, working hard to serve clients in CPG, DTC, Fitness, Fashion and Wellness with fun, innovative, and eye catching Creative Direction.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I truly believe that Creativity has the power to change lives. I think that a lot of people walk around feeling like they are not creative but what they don’t realize is that everyone is creative in one way or another. At simple terms, Creativity is the power to do what you can with what is in front of you and to create your reality everyday. So my favorite part is definitely the ability to make something out of nothing, to dream of possibilities and constantly holding curiosity to what life can become or turn into.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I truly believe that building brands is my mission in life. It has become something I know brings a lot of purpose to my life and helps me keep going forward. It combines strategy, storytelling, and design to create experiences that evoke emotions, solve problems, and inspire loyalty. Each step, from defining a brand’s voice to visually bringing it to life, is an opportunity to innovate and also to ultimately have fun in the creative journey.
