We recently connected with Holly Gort and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Holly thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
My best investment wasn’t a tool or a marketing strategy—it was people.
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to find my tribe: my husband, my mentor, and the team I get to work with every day. I’m a creative with big ideas, and my husband brings the balance I need—he’s supportive, but he also helps me think through the real-life implications of those ideas. My mentor trained me in this industry and continues to be a steady source of wisdom and perspective when I need it most.
And the team that’s taken years to build… it’s the piece that makes everything work. They’re creative like me, but they also bring strengths in doing the things I just hate to do—things like reporting, HR, and finances. Together, we’re stronger, more balanced, and able to serve our clients better.
I’ve tried to do things on my own…to be scrappy and lean. What I learned is that’s not a terrible idea. Sometimes it’s the only thing to do. But I knew it was going to limit my business to the level of my weakest skill. If I wanted to grow, I need to have a CEO mindset, which meant hiring a team so I could focus on income-generating opportunities. This investment in the right people has shaped every part of my business.
On the flip side, one of my worst investments was spending thousands of dollars to appear on local TV stations.
It sounded like a great opportunity for visibility, but it resulted in exactly zero conversions. Not one.
What I learned from that is this: not all exposure is good exposure. If your audience isn’t in the room or you’re just hoping this is the thing that works…it doesn’t matter how big the platform is, it’s the wrong fit. Now, I focus my time and resources on spaces where I can truly connect, educate, engage and build trust. That’s what actually has grown my business.

Holly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m the owner of BeYOUtiful Image Consulting and Gracie Jane’s Boutique, and at the heart of both is a simple goal—to help women feel like themselves when they get dressed.
My background is actually in interior design, so I’ve always loved creating spaces that feel like home. Over time, that naturally shifted into helping women create wardrobes that feel the same way—like them. That’s what led me to become a Certified Image and Color Consultant.
Through my services—color analysis, closet edits, and personal shopping—I help women understand what works for them and why. It’s not about telling someone what to wear. It’s about giving them clarity so getting dressed feels simple instead of overwhelming.
Gracie Jane’s Boutique came from seeing that women didn’t just need guidance—they needed access to pieces that actually worked. So everything in the boutique is thoughtfully chosen to mix, match, and support real life.
The biggest problem I see is women standing in front of a full closet feeling stuck. It’s not a lack of clothes—it’s a lack of clarity. And that’s where I come in.
What sets my work apart is that I don’t believe in starting over or telling women they’ve been doing it wrong. We refine what they already have, build from there, and create something that truly feels like them—just BeYOUtifully styled.
What I’m most proud of is how this work impacts women beyond their wardrobe. When getting dressed feels easier, everything else does too.
I’m also the founder of Redeemed Style and Mobile Boutique, a nonprofit that provides wardrobes for women walking through difficult seasons. It’s a more personal, one-on-one experience where women can shop with dignity and be cared for in a meaningful way. That work is incredibly close to my heart and reminds me why this all matters.

Any advice for managing a team?
For me, it really comes down to trust and culture.
I trust my team to own their roles and work together. I don’t believe in micromanaging—everyone has their strengths, and when people feel trusted, they give you their best.
Do I buy lunch or treat my team to coffee or other perks? Sure, but that’s just icing on the cake. We all respect each other and that’s where the magic happens.
I’m also very clear that we operate in a no-drama environment. We’re in the business of building up women, and that has to start with us. It shows up in how we talk to each other, how we take responsibility for our roles, how we communicate with our clients, and how we work together toward a shared goal.
When that kind of culture is in place, morale takes care of itself. People feel respected, supported, and part of something meaningful—and that’s what makes a team strong.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The biggest driver of my growth has honestly been word of mouth.
When women have a great experience, they share it with their friends, their family, their co-workers, even the people at their gym!—and that’s been incredibly impactful for my business. A lot of my clients come from referrals, which tells me we’re doing something right.
I also see steady growth through online searches that lead people to my website. That’s often where someone is already looking for a solution, and they find us at the right time.
Group events have been another really effective piece. They’re a fun, lower-commitment way for women to experience color analysis and styling, and they naturally lead to deeper relationships and future services.
And I’ve built relationships with local businesses as well, training new employees on professional dress and presentation. That’s opened the door to a completely different audience and allowed me to serve in a really practical way.
At the end of the day, though, it all comes back to connection. When people feel seen, supported, and confident, they tell others—and that’s what continues to grow everything.
