We recently connected with Natalie Canfield and have shared our conversation below.
Natalie, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
When I was 22 I decided to move out of Iowa to Kansas City, with no job, no family, and maybe 2 friends there. Looking back at it now, I think how crazy that was to pick up and move my life with zero plan other than the roof over my head. However, my life would be nothing it is today and honestly I’m not sure I would be a business owner otherwise. The push outside of my comfort zone that it took to leave my steady job and do my own thing was definitely shaped by the leap I took to move away and live in the uncomfortable, until it became my story

Natalie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Será Skin was created to be more than just a place for treatments. It is a space where clients can step away from the stress of everyday life and feel truly cared for, supported, and confident in their skin. I got into this industry because I have always been passionate about helping people feel better about themselves, not just on the surface, but in the way they carry themselves when they leave my treatment room.
With nearly a decade of experience in the aesthetics industry, I have had the opportunity to work closely with a wide variety of skin concerns and client goals. That experience has shaped the way I approach skincare today. At Será Skin, I offer results-driven treatments while still creating a calming, personalized experience. My goal is to combine corrective skincare with genuine care so every client feels seen, heard, and never like just another appointment on the schedule.
I provide customized skincare treatments designed to address concerns such as acne, aging, pigmentation, texture, sensitivity, and overall skin health. What sets my business apart is the balance between advanced, effective treatments and a warm, client-centered approach. I never want clients to feel rushed, pressured, or sold to. I want them to feel educated, comfortable, and confident that their treatment plan is truly designed with their best interest in mind.
One of the things I am most proud of is building a business rooted in trust, relationships, and integrity. In an industry that can sometimes become overly focused on trends or profit, I am committed to keeping the client experience at the center of everything I do. I want people to know that Será Skin is a brand built on intention, honesty, and the belief that everyone deserves to feel confident in their own skin.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
One of the most impactful decisions I’ve made for my business was investing in a mentor within my specific industry. Having someone who understands not just business in general, but the aesthetics space in particular, completely changed the way I approach growth. It gave me clarity, structure, and the confidence to make decisions that actually move the needle instead of just guessing.
Alongside that, social media has played a huge role in how I’ve built up my clientele. The industry has shifted so much, people want to feel connected before they ever walk through your door. Showing real results, educating clients, and letting my personality come through online has helped build trust way before someone even books an appointment. It’s not just about marketing a service, it’s about building a relationship and a brand people feel aligned with.
For me, the combination of mentorship and intentional, authentic social media presence has been the biggest driver of growth.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
A major turning point for me was during my time working for a previous employer. I was going through a really difficult personal moment (my grandfather was in Iowa passing away after suffering a sudden stroke) and I was still being expected to show up and work in Kansas City. That experience made me take a step back and really evaluate what I wanted my life and career to look like.
At the time, it was incredibly hard, but it pushed me to make a change I had been hesitant to make for a while: going out on my own. Leaving that environment forced me out of my comfort zone and into building something that aligned with my values – not just professionally, but personally.
Looking back now, I’m genuinely grateful for that experience. It gave me the push I needed to create a business where people come first, including my clients, employees and myself. It shaped the foundation of Será Skin and the way I show up for others every day!
