We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Zoo Rass a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Zoo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I gained my expertise from my previous experience as an artist. I’ve always had solid music marketing strategies for my own career, so in a way, I was my first client. Along the way, I also dove into books and courses from both music marketing experts and digital marketing professionals from various fields. I stay up-to-date by listening to top industry leaders and marketing experts to keep improving. If I could go back, I’d start my digital marketing journey a bit earlier—it would have accelerated my progress. The key skills I’ve learned are storytelling, creating engaging content, understanding client needs, and mastering the nuances of each social media platform. As for obstacles, I haven’t faced many, as platforms like YouTube and TikTok, plus networking, have made continuous learning easy.

Zoo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Zoo’s journey is a testament to the power of passion and adaptability in carving out a successful career path. Graduating with a degree in Sports Management and Marketing from SUNY Canton, Zoo initially ventured into the music industry as an artist. However, he soon discovered his talent for crafting effective marketing strategies within the music industry.
Transitioning from creating music for himself to writing and strategizing for others, Zoo found his true calling in helping artists realize their potential and achieve their goals. With a deep understanding of both the creative and business sides of the industry, he began implementing innovative marketing techniques to elevate artists’ careers.
Working with clients from SONY, Redbull, and Universal Music Group is a testament to his expertise and reputation. Helping artists amass millions of streams, plays, and followers demonstrates his ability to make a significant impact in the music industry.
Driven by a relentless commitment to excellence and a genuine desire to see artists succeed, Zoo continues to be a driving force in the music space. His passion for both music and marketing fuels his endeavors, empowering talents and shaping the future of the music industry.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
My career today is a result of a major pivot. If you had asked me 7-8 years ago what I wanted to do, I would have said I dreamt of being a successful dancehall artist touring the world. But now, my perspective has shifted. I transitioned from being an artist to working behind the scenes in the music industry as a digital marketer, all while still occasionally writing music for others. At first, it wasn’t easy because I was so closely tied to my identity as an artist, and I feared disappointing my supporters and collaborators. But eventually, I realized that I had to let go of the past and embrace what was ahead. I never gave up on my dreams; I simply redirected them. Now, I’ve had the opportunity to help many artists achieve their goals, and that has been incredibly fulfilling. At this stage in my life, I wouldn’t change a thing.
