Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tonicia Freeman-Foster. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tonicia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The idea for my business grew out of years of observing something that many people experience but rarely talk about openly—the deep emotional impact leadership has on people’s lives.
Throughout my career, I worked in a range of organizations and encountered many different leadership styles. Some leaders created environments where people felt valued, supported, and motivated to grow. Others created cultures where people felt unheard, anxious, or devalued. What struck me the most was how strongly those experiences stayed with people. The way someone is led can shape how they see themselves, how they show up at work, and even how they view their own potential.
As I continued studying leadership and eventually earned my Master’s and Doctorate degrees in the field, I became increasingly curious about what was happening beneath the surface of these leadership dynamics. I began to notice that many leaders weren’t intentionally creating unhealthy environments. Often, they navigated internal pressures, unresolved conflicts, or deeply ingrained beliefs about leadership that influenced their decisions, and most trainings and programs offered only topical solutions.
That insight led me to explore how leaders could become more aware of those internal patterns and shift them in constructive ways. Over time, that exploration evolved into the R7 Emotional Conflict Reframing Framework™, which helps leaders reflect on the narratives shaping their decisions and develop healthier ways of responding to challenges.
What makes me most excited is realizing the ripple effect. When leaders grow in awareness and intentionality, it changes how they communicate, make decisions, and support the people around them. This shift has the potential to transform entire workplaces, services, and the communities they serve.

Tonicia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Dr. Tonicia Freeman-Foster. I’ve always been deeply fascinated by leadership—how it forms, how it evolves, and how it influences the lives of others. That curiosity eventually led me to pursue advanced study in the field, earning both my Master’s and Doctorate degrees in leadership and dedicating much of my professional life to understanding what helps leaders and organizations thrive.
Today, I serve as a leadership reclamation coach, consultant, and best-selling author. I’m the Co-Founder of Purposeful Success LLC dba LEIDOSWEL (pronounced lead-us-well). Through my work, I partner with leaders across corporate, nonprofit, social impact, and government sectors who want to strengthen their leadership presence, navigate complex environments, and cultivate cultures where people can do meaningful work without sacrificing their well-being.
My approach centers on helping leaders reconnect with their values, their voice, and their sense of purpose. Through coaching, consulting, and speaking engagements, I guide leaders through processes that build emotional resilience, clarify decision-making, and support more effective leadership practices.
I’m also the creator of the R7 Emotional Conflict Reframing Framework™ and the C.A.M.I.S.E. Framework™, both designed to help leaders navigate challenges with greater clarity and self-awareness while strengthening the cultures they lead.
What I’m most proud of is helping leaders rediscover their confidence and lead in ways that feel authentic to who they are. When leaders show up with both strength and self-awareness, the impact extends far beyond the workplace—it influences team members, clients, families, communities, and the broader systems we all live within.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has been relationships and referrals. I connect with leaders through networking events, course programs, and speaking engagements, which give people a chance to get to know me and my work. What makes it effective is the live conversations—learning where they are, where they want to be, and exploring how I can support them. Those authentic connections consistently lead to clients who are engaged, inspired, and ready to grow.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I’ve had to unlearn—and continue to work on—is charging for my work. Society often normalizes giving your gifts away for free, especially when those gifts involve helping or healing others. Many of us, as young girls, learned that service should be selfless and that intangible transformations—clarity, confidence, healing, purpose—were somehow “less valuable” than tangible things.
When I reflect on childhood, many of us played roles like doctor, nurse, or veterinarian. We cared for our pretend patients and solved their problems, but we never created a pretend bill or charged them for our services. Over time, I realized we often carry that expectation into adulthood, especially Black women, believing our work in transformation, helping, and healing should be free.
I had to unlearn that belief. The guidance, support, and frameworks I provide help people create meaningful change. I help my clients plant powerful seeds that grow and manifest into tangible achievements. That impact requires my time, energy, innovation, expertise, and experience—and it deserves to be honored and well compensated.
