Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tomer Yotam. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tomer, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
Scaling Up: 20 Years of Mastering Total Security
Over the last two decades, I’ve learned that scaling a successful service business isn’t just about growth—it’s about depth. My journey from a local technician to a comprehensive security specialist was built on one principle: Total Mastery.
The Middle Phase: Diversification
The most critical part of my story was the decision to bridge the gap between sectors. I didn’t want to just be ‘the key guy.’ I wanted to be the professional that property managers, business owners, and homeowners trust with their most sensitive assets. Scaling up meant investing in the specialized equipment and dealer-level software required to handle everything from high-security commercial access control and safe-cracking to advanced automotive diagnostics.
My Strategy for Growth
1. Technical Versatility: Whether it’s a high-tech commercial electronic lock, a complex residential re-key, or a locked residential safe, I’ve spent 20 years ensuring I have the tools and the training to solve the problem on the first visit.
2. Investment in Infrastructure: I transitioned to a fully equipped, professional mobile workstation. This allows me to bring a complete shop’s worth of precision tools directly to a commercial site or a client’s driveway.
3. Trust as a Foundation: In security, your reputation is everything. By focusing on precision and technical excellence across all sectors, I’ve built long-term relationships with clients who know I can handle any challenge they throw at me.
The Result –
Today, my business is larger and more capable because I never stopped learning. I’ve moved past the simple ‘nitty-gritty’ tasks and focused on providing high-level security solutions. When you’ve been in the industry for 20 years, you don’t just open doors—you provide peace of mind.”

Tomer, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
20 Years of Security and Solutions –
I entered the locksmith and security industry two decades ago, driven by a fascination with the mechanics of security and a desire to help people in high-stress situations. Over the last 20 years, I’ve transitioned from mastering traditional lock-and-key mechanics to becoming a high-level specialist in advanced security technology.
What I Provide –
My business provides a comprehensive suite of security services designed for the modern world. This includes:
• Commercial Security: High-security access control systems and hardware for business complexes and office buildings.
• Residential Expertise: Precision re-keying and security upgrades to ensure families feel safe in their homes.
• Specialized Safe Services: Technical service and opening for residential and commercial safes.
• Advanced Automotive: High-end key programming and dealer-level diagnostics for modern vehicles.
The Problems I Solve –
I solve the problem of “unsolvable” security issues. Clients often come to me when a situation is too complex for a standard technician—whether it’s a malfunctioning commercial electronic lock, a high-security vehicle key that “can’t be programmed,” or a safe that won’t budge. I bridge the gap between old-world craftsmanship and new-age technology.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Honestly, it’s all been word-of-mouth and long-term relationships. After 20 years in the industry, my name is out there as someone who shows up prepared.
I get a lot of calls from property managers, local businesses, and homeowners who just want the job done right without the runaround. Because I’ve invested so much in professional mobile workstations and dealer-level software, my clients know they’re getting a high-end result. When you provide that kind of consistency for two decades, your customers become your best marketing—they tell their friends and colleagues that if they want it done right, they call me.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
It comes down to showing up with the right tools and actually knowing how to use them. I don’t believe in “good enough” when it comes to someone’s security. Whether I’m at a commercial building, a house, or working on a high-end vehicle, I use the best diagnostic hardware and tools available.
