We recently connected with Todd Muskopf and have shared our conversation below.
Todd, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
The kindest thing any of my clients can do for me is to go out on a limb and tell their friends how much they loved their experience with me. Those one-on-one referrals are more meaningful than any marketing I can do.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I feel like I’ve been following bread crumbs for the last 40 years. The Universe keeps saying “you’re supposed to be on this track, here’s another hint.” I began as a fine art painter, then art teacher, sold paintings in galleries, shot photos for newspapers and magazines, then started doing portraits. Along the way, I began collecting Old Hollywood film stills and started shooting with the posing and lighting of Old Hollywood just over 10 years ago.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In the first decade of the 2000s, I was selling a lot of paintings through galleries. Sales began slowing around 2006/07, before people knew it wasn’t just the Art market that was in trouble. A few years later, all the galleries I was in had closed. I made the shift to photography and kept going.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
One piece at a time! I was always cautious. I would use equipment to make money, pay bills, and the leftover money would be re-invested into the next bit of equipment. Over the years, this has paid off, especially when Covid hit unexpectedly and those people with loans and leases were panicking.
