Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiffany Griffith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Tiffany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I didn’t start my business with a big plan to become an entrepreneur. It actually began with curiosity and a desire to make something with my hands.
I had fallen down the rabbit hole of watching soapmaking videos and became fascinated by the process. The science of it, the creativity, and the transformation from simple oils into something both beautiful and useful. Around the same time, I started making soap as a way to spend time with my niece. What began as a fun project together quickly became something much more meaningful.
When I began using the soaps myself, I noticed a real difference in my skin. Irritation and dryness that I had struggled with for years started to calm down. That was the moment it really clicked for me. This wasn’t just a craft. It was something that could genuinely help people.
I started sharing bars with friends and family, and their reactions were incredibly encouraging. People kept coming back asking for more, and that support gave me the confidence to begin selling small batches. Over time, what started as a simple hobby slowly grew into a business.
As I continued learning and experimenting, customers began asking for more than just soap. That naturally led me to start formulating other skincare products like creams and body care, which eventually shaped the direction of my brand today, Lonestar Skincraft & Co.
Another big piece of the story is Texas. I’ve lived here for over a decade, and it became a place of healing and growth during a difficult period in my life. I met my husband here, and over time the landscapes, towns, and culture started inspiring many of my products. I realized that scent could tell a story about a place, and that idea became the heart of my brand.
What excites me most is the combination of science, creativity, and storytelling. I’m not just making soap or skincare products. Each one is designed to connect people to a place, a memory, or a feeling through scent.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m the founder of Lonestar Skincraft & Co., a Texas-inspired handmade skincare brand focused on small-batch soaps and body care products. My work blends thoughtful ingredient formulation with something that’s very personal to me, telling stories through scent.
I originally started with soapmaking after becoming fascinated with the craft and the science behind it. What began as a creative hobby quickly grew into something much bigger as I realized how much better my skin responded to handmade soap compared to many commercial products. That experience sparked a deeper interest in skincare formulation and eventually led me to expand into creams, bath soaks, and other body care products.
Today my focus is creating products that are both functional and meaningful. Everything I make is crafted in small batches with carefully chosen ingredients and a strong emphasis on skin comfort and everyday usability. I want people to enjoy using these products while also feeling confident about what they’re putting on their skin.
One of the things that sets my brand apart is the inspiration behind the products. I’ve lived in Texas for over a decade, and it became a place of healing and growth during a difficult period in my life. The landscapes, towns, and culture here inspired the direction of my brand. Many of my products are connected to specific places across Texas, and I use scent as a way to evoke those locations and the feelings tied to them.
Another thing that’s important to me is maintaining the integrity of the craft. I’m self-taught through years of research, experimentation, and learning from the soapmaking and skincare community. Every formula I create is something I’ve spent time refining so that the final product feels good to use and performs well.
What I’m most proud of is the connection customers form with the products. Sometimes a scent reminds someone of a place they love, and other times someone tells me their skin feels better after switching to handmade products. Those moments are incredibly rewarding because they remind me that what started as a simple curiosity has turned into something that genuinely brings people joy.
At its core, Lonestar Skincraft & Co. is about creating thoughtful products that care for the skin while also capturing a sense of place, memory, and story.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots I’ve had to make in my business was rebranding.
For years my brand operated under the name Lonestar Lather, which reflected where everything began with handmade soap. As the business grew, however, my product line expanded well beyond soap into creams, body care, and other skincare products. I realized the name no longer fully represented the direction the brand was heading.
Around that same time, I discovered another business using a very similar name, which made me start thinking more seriously about long-term brand protection and identity. It pushed me to step back and ask a bigger question about what I wanted the future of the brand to look like.
That moment became an opportunity to intentionally shape the next chapter of the business instead of simply reacting to the situation.
The result was the transition to Lonestar Skincraft & Co. The new name better reflects the broader focus on skincare and formulation while still honoring the Texas inspiration that has always been central to my work.
Rebranding wasn’t a small change. It meant updating packaging, marketing materials, online platforms, and how customers recognized the business. It also required trusting that the people who supported the brand would follow the transition.
What I learned from that experience is that sometimes growth requires letting go of something familiar in order to build something stronger. The heart of the brand never changed, the craftsmanship, the Texas inspiration, and the focus on quality skincare are still the foundation. The new name simply allows the business to grow into its next chapter more clearly.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn early in my journey was the idea that “natural” automatically means better.
When I first started learning about soapmaking and skincare, I was exposed to a lot of messaging that framed natural ingredients as the only good option and anything synthetic as something to avoid. Like many people entering the handmade space, I assumed that natural always meant safer, healthier, or more effective.
Over time, as I studied formulation more seriously and gained experience working with different ingredients, I realized the reality is much more nuanced. Some natural ingredients are wonderful and incredibly beneficial for the skin, but others can be unstable, irritating, or simply not the best choice for a particular formula. On the other hand, some synthetic ingredients are created specifically to improve safety, stability, and performance.
That shift in perspective helped me move away from trends and marketing buzzwords and focus instead on what actually works well for the skin. Today my approach to formulation is much more balanced. I choose ingredients based on how they function, how they perform in a formula, and how they benefit the end user rather than whether they fall into a “natural” or “synthetic” label.
That lesson ultimately made me a better maker. It pushed me to keep learning, to question assumptions, and to focus on thoughtful formulation rather than hype. At the end of the day, my goal is to create products that are safe, effective, and enjoyable to use, and sometimes the best solution comes from nature, sometimes from science, and often from a combination of both.
For my customers, that means they can trust that every ingredient in my products has a purpose. Instead of following trends, I focus on creating formulas that support healthy skin and provide a product that truly performs well in everyday use.
