We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Terrell Pierce. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Terrell below.
Hi Terrell, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I always wanted to be an actor since I was 6yrs old after watching Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura and The Mask. I was intrigued by his performances and how entertaining he was. I never tried to actually pursue a career in acting because I didn’t believe someone from my environment in Chicago could make it in the industry. Then Lamorne Morris, who I’ve known since I was 11yrs old, told us he was going to move away to pursue acting. A few years later I saw him on TV. That showed me that people from our environment could make it in industry. So, I asked him how I could become an actor, he told me, and the rest is history.

Terrell, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My acting career got started after I looked up some theater auditions and submitted my headshot and resume. Of course I made a fake resume because I didn’t have any previous experience but they didn’t have to know that. It took me about 2 months to book my first role back in 2014. It was in a play called The Gathering. Since then, I’ve done films, commercials, and even started to write screenplays. Recently, I got into doing stand up comedy and found out that it’s challenging but also exciting. I love being on stage and on set. Also, I find that its very beneficial to have other skills and talents in entertainment, so I’m glad that I caught the acting, writing, and stand up bugs.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal or mission is to become successful in the lanes that I’m in to be able to give my son a better future. Also, I want to be in a position to be able to help others like my friends and family on their journies. I know that the higher up I go and the more successful I become, the more easier I can potentially make the path become for them. That’s what drives me.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
There’s a lot that non creatives struggle to understand about artists. We see the world differently. There’s sacrifices that we’re willing to make that most people wouldn’t. Some of us are willing to be homeless just to live in an environment where we can do what we love even if it means we have to starve. A lot of us are so dedicated we just might be a little crazy because of it.
