We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sinuo Li a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Sinuo, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?

The first I realize I could use all my skills like music sampling, sound design, graphic design and illustration and put them together, I know I can walk on this path. It was a tough decision because I was not quite sure if I can actually make it but the works I have done told me I can.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I got into music industry in the beginning, I learned classical guitar when I was in primary school for 5 years and after high school, I write lyrics and rap in Chinese but I knew that was not a career choice for me because I have to think about reality, can I really make money from it? Then I got into design, I was a little bit confused of which part of design I would like to go, but I finally found myself in motion graphics design because it is a industry which can related to music, visual, commercial and basically everything, it allows me to maximize my skills to create excellent work.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

I think one of the lesson I have learned was from a freelance work of my friend’s senior show fashion film. It made me realize that design is an industry of service, we need to make terms clear before we get project done such as how many times of revision are limit, we need to extra charge if we need make a big change after the project has already done.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

I think building your own brand identity needs you do your works first, as the amount of you works increasing, you would know what is your style of working, what is your style of doing things, you would know what is visual identity, what is your main focus at that time!
