We were lucky to catch up with Tasha Scott recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tasha, thanks for joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
My first client was a friend I was helping. He was a locally known rapper that just needed some professional help on the PR and marketing side. For years I did it for free. When I made my business official, he promised to be my first paid client, and he was.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I’ve always loved writing, and hip hop, so I started blogging for DJ B-Lord in 2009. In 2010 I started my own blog, SheBloggin.com. It garnered a lot of attention, especially from independent artists. After seeing how much help they needed, I started getting into public relations. Fast forward to today, I still run my blog, but now include more business related content, as well as women’s lifestyle. I also own Lotti Creatives LLC, where we do PR, branding and marketing.
From my blog, people recognized me as a go-getter and hard worker. I had built a steady support base, so when I moved to do different arenas, they were with me.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2024, exactly 15 years after starting my hip hop blog, I made the announcement that I was going to transition the blog from being prominently hip hop, to business and lifestyle. Although its just a site, its also an established brand, so transitioning from one genre to another took strategic planning.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2009 when I first started my blog, and in 2012 when I started my first business, I was in a deep depression. A few years prior I had gone through a horrific and traumatizing health condition. It dramatically changed my appearance, leading me to spiraling. In 2017, God broke those chains and restored my confidence. I knew there were things I needed to do and my time was far from over. Thank God I’m now healed of those dark thoughts, and from the nightmare that the doctors left me with.
