We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tanisha Mackin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tanisha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
My first client is the heartbeat of my company. While I never set out to become a ghostwriter or a publisher, the journey began organically. After releasing several of my own books, I began receiving requests from others to help them do the same. The demand for professional guidance led me to establish my first publishing firm, Tanisha Mackin Publishing, LLC.

Tanisha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I empower both aspiring and seasoned authors to reach bestseller status by ghostwriting and publishing high-quality masterpieces. My approach goes beyond the page; I coach my clients on how to transform their books into profitable businesses. From consulting on entrepreneurship and branding to coordinating successful book signings, I provide the roadmap for authors to become their own boss. I am widely recognized as the “Master of Manuscripts.”

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective growth strategy for my business relies on two core pillars: the excellence of the finished product and the power of word-of-mouth. Every book I publish serves as a high-end business card for my company; when clients showcase their masterpieces to friends and family, it naturally generates high-quality leads. This organic reputation, combined with a strategic social media presence, has been the foundation of my expanding clientele.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building a social media audience is a marathon, not a sprint. Over the years, I’ve refined my strategy by utilizing promotional partnerships, maintaining a daily posting schedule, and analyzing my metrics to identify peak engagement times. While the demand of daily content can be taxing, implementing a scheduling system has allowed me the freedom to manage my business while staying visible. The keys to online growth are simple but rigorous: post frequently, stay consistent, and find creative ways to engage and entertain your audience.
