We recently connected with Storm The DJ and have shared our conversation below.
Storm, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
My earliest memories are connected to music. My father, who is a military veteran, loved hip hop, and music always felt powerful in our home. I noticed early how sound could change the mood of a room and make people feel something instantly. Before DJing, I worked in modeling and entertainment, so I was already living in creative spaces. But DJing was different. I was not just part of the moment, I was helping create it. Once I realized how naturally I connected to reading a crowd and shaping energy through music, I knew this was not just something I enjoyed. It was something I was meant to build a life around.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Storm the DJ, an open format DJ, live performer, host, and creative entrepreneur. I create high energy music experiences for live events, branded activations, private events, nightlife, and digital platforms. My style blends Top 40, hip hop, R&B, dance, house, and nostalgic records in a way that feels seamless, elevated, and fun. What I really provide is more than music. I create atmosphere. I help clients turn events into experiences that feel alive, cohesive, and memorable. I know how to read a room, build momentum, support a brand, and keep people engaged.
What sets me apart is the combination of technical skill, performance presence, and emotional intelligence. My background in fashion and entertainment taught me how to command a room, and DJing gave me the tools to move one. I’m also proud of building a brand that feels authentic. In 2025, I became the first African American female Live Pro DJ on TikTok, and that milestone meant a lot because it reflected both consistency and breaking barriers. I want clients, followers, and fans to know that my brand is about energy, excellence, and connection. When people book or support me, they are getting more than a DJ. They are stepping into an experience.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes. A major part of my mission is to create unforgettable experiences while also expanding what is possible for women, especially Black women, in DJ culture and live entertainment. I want to help people understand that DJing is a real craft. It takes skill, preparation, intuition, and presence. I also care deeply about representation. I want younger creatives to see that there is room for them to lead, take up space, and build something powerful in this industry. At the center of it all, I want my work to make people feel something real. Joy, freedom, confidence, connection. That impact is what keeps me going.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the belief that being talented is enough. For a long time, I thought if I worked hard, stayed humble, and delivered, the right opportunities would naturally come. But I learned that excellence matters and so does visibility, positioning, and clearly communicating your value. As a creative, especially as a Black woman, there can be pressure to just be grateful for the opportunity instead of being clear about what you bring. I had to unlearn that. I had to stop shrinking my value and realize that self advocacy is not arrogance. It is clarity. That shift changed how I showed up, how I negotiated, and how I built my brand. I learned that talent opens the door, but conviction helps you walk through it.
