We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Solimar Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Solimar below.
Solimar, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the decision of whether to donate a percentage of sales to an organization or cause – we’d love to hear the backstory of how you thought through this.
Here at UNBTHRD we believe in putting our money where our mouth is and partnering with organization/causes that really resonate with the brand.
We believe that if there is a will there is a way and even though we are a small self founded brand we have found a way to give back as much as we can.
This is only the beginning and we are very excited for what this new year has yet to bring.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Solimar Williams, I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and moved to the US when I was 17. As a little girl I was always interested in fashion. I wanted to become a designer and make people feel good with clothing.
I wanted to create a safe space in fashion for everyone to feel good and be comfortable wearing the clothing they like.
What I think sets UNBTHRD apart from the rest of the brands is that we always create with our customers in mind. We are open to change and we keep an open ear to suggestions.
We are small and still have a lot of growing to do. We want to expand our size range to be completely inclusive and bring a lot more positive fashion into the world.
What we are most proud of is the feedback we have received from our amazing customers and how much they love the fabrics and designs.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
First I want to say that starting your own business is HARD!
There are a lot of samples we had to go through a lot of “no’s before we got to the YES.
This was a bit discouraging for me as a creative but I kept pushing to bring my customers the best of the best.
We also had a failed production and a lost shipment.
But we always keep pushing.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was that I don’t know everything and that I am going to be surprised and learn something new every day.
You cannot predict what people are going to like and you just have to trust your process.
