We were lucky to catch up with ShonMarra Glover recently and have shared our conversation below.
ShonMarra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the toughest things about entrepreneurship is that there is almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
Currently, I’m experiencing a small setback. Over the past year, I’ve been dealing with chest pains and shortness of breath, and after various tests, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. I am now preparing for surgery to remove the cancer. This setback has slowed me down because I can’t work as much, and I have frequent doctor visits. It’s a daily reality check that I am overcoming, and I refuse to let anything prevent me from pursuing my true dreams. As I work through this challenge, I am also dedicating more time to writing my books. With the extra time, I’ve been able to focus on my craft. Stay tuned for an author release from the BY-POLAR Brand.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is ShonMarra, though I am often known as “Ms. BY-POLAR.” As a proud Gemini ♊️, my zodiac sign is prominently featured in my Gemini and Leo logo. I earned a degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice from Virginia Union University, but I ultimately found my true passion in fashion. While I previously worked as a Registered Behavioral Therapist, I decided to combine all my skills and interests into a single lifestyle brand. I have been published multiple times, from the DMV area to Atlanta, and have participated in fashion shows along both the East and West Coasts. Recently, I released my son’s first coloring book and am also preparing to take my bartender classes on a world tour. My brand is easily discoverable on Google, where you can find information about my various achievements over the years. The presence of my accomplishments online affirms that I am on the right track with my lifestyle brand.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I am currently embracing my truth by practicing resilience and accepting myself as I am today and recognizing how far I’ve come. As I mentioned before, after facing the setback of having lung cancer and caring for a toddler, I refused to give up or let this illness control me. Every day, I make it my mission to understand my value to the world and to acknowledge that my feelings and choices matter. I am here to make a difference, to stand up and speak boldly. My days of staying silent are over; I live authentically and share my truth! This is not only for my brand but also as a mother, a Black woman in America, an entrepreneur, and a voice for other women—to encourage them to be themselves and live fully in their truth.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My business was inspired by Leo, who was tall and, in my eyes, the finest from Compton. He captured my heart with his charm and the love he had for me—love I often couldn’t give to myself. He took the time to understand me, learn what I wanted to do, and guided me with confidence and support as I built my brand, which we both envisioned growing big. Sadly, he passed away before reaching that level of success. In his memory, I created a logo that combines the symbols of Gemini and Leo as a reminder of my appreciation—representing that we are a bipolar brand. Whether he’s here or not, we carry the mission of spreading awareness and love in the Leo and Gemini way.
