We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sean Jones. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sean below.
Sean, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve ever worked on has definitely been my latest album, “sean & MODO”. This album, subject matter wise, came about from the most transformative period of my life to date spurred by sobriety from alcohol, therapy to heal and reconcile my past and childhood traumas, and reconnecting with God on a spiritual level. Not only does the album connect deeply with these topics on a human level, it is contrasted by the inflated ego and darkness that is fueled by the artists person. This is where sean & MODO’s title comes from. The human and the artist persona are both prevalent showcasing the duality of the life of an entertainer.

Sean, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into hiphop and began writing songs at a young age. Being a white kid from a small town in southeast Kansas, my future endeavors and dreams were often met with doubt. I’m someone that never cares to listen to others, though. After the passing of my younger brother, Chris, in 2018, I decided to take my art seriously and began the full professional pursuit as a hiphop artist under the stage name, Modo. Trauma and grief can either breed complete loss of self and desire to live, or lead to some of the most beautiful of success stories. I choose the latter!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The biggest lesson I had to unlearn is that if you make quality art, you will have success in the music industry. I often have a very logical based view of the world, in which the best of something will always be the most successful, right? WRONG!? It truly is about who has the ability to market to a targeted audience and who can make connections with the right people that give you access to capital and exposure. Of course the music has to be good as well.. but I know a lot of artists WAY more talented than even I whose careers don’t hold a candle to what I have achieved so far. It really is the most important frame of mind change I’ve ever had.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist really is the impact and legacy you leave behind. I 100% create my art from a selfish place of self expression.. but once it’s out into the public and the world, that art is no longer mine. And NOTHING beats the feeling of hearing stories about how someone was affected to the point of their day, month, mindset or even life has been changed by your work. It is truly mind blowing every time I think about the support and fan base that I have around me.
