We were lucky to catch up with Sampson Ashby jr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sampson, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful it takes two main things, consistency and passion. I believe If you stay consistent in whatever you’re passionate about you will reach success.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am 24 year old entrepreneur and business owner from baltimore maryland. I started my clothing brand (Union Brand) in 2013 but I didn’t really start taking it serious until 2016. In 2016 I started selling clothes out of my car, I was doing that until 2020. The year 2020 is when I got my storefront and this been my passion every since. The reason I started my brand is because of my mother, she seen my passion for fashion and gave me the idea to start making my own clothes. Now I will continue to create clothing and trying new styles because it’s what I love to do.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Yes, so in the beginning of my business journey I had someone who was helping me and my mom with understanding the clothing industry. We were paying him for information and he was handling the inventory. Everything was going good until he decided to scam us out of the money and flee. That incident set us back majorly but we came back 10 times harder.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
One time I ordered way to many sweatsuits that were an odd color that I couldn’t sell. I was so stressed and I was starting to just take it as a loss. After about a month I started to think of some different marketing strategies. I took a few lifestyle pictures with the sweatsuit on posted it on social media and posted it as a sale item and sold all of them in one week!
