We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sammie B a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sammie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
As I’ve deepened my inner work, my creative impact has expanded as well. The project that feels most meaningful to me right now is the one I’m currently developing. For years, I’ve been the one in the spotlight—what I had to offer centered around “Sammie B” as the artist, performer, or DJ.
Recently, I felt called to create something bigger than myself: a business that brings together music, creativity, and wellness. I became certified in sound healing and will soon be hosting pop-up events that reimagine what nightlife can look and feel like.
As someone in recovery, I know there are many people like me who still want to go out on the weekend, dance, connect, and have an amazing time—just in a way that feels healthier and more intentional. For too long, nightlife and dancing have existed separately from wellness and holistic practices like sound baths, yoga, and breathwork.
I’ve realized that my calling is to help bridge that gap. Both music—creating it and dancing to it—and holistic practices have profoundly improved my life and overall well-being. Now, I feel inspired to share that experience with others and offer something that nourishes both joy and healing.

Sammie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began expressing myself creatively through poetry and visual art at a very young age. Over time, I’ve come to realize that I don’t simply make art — I am art becoming tangible. Creativity is the way I translate my inner world into something others can experience.
As I grew, I developed skills in rapping, songwriting, singing, and music production. DJing has always felt especially natural to me, as my brain often feels like a jukebox constantly cataloging sounds, rhythms, and songs. My lyrics, poetry, and visual art tend to express my deeper emotions and thoughts, while producing, DJing, and designing clothing or custom visual pieces reflect a more vibrant, celebratory side of my creativity.
Building businesses around my creativity has allowed these passions to become more than hobbies. My music is available on all major streaming platforms, and through my website, SammieBcreative.com, I sell original artwork and merchandise. I’m also a DJ, custom shoe and clothing designer, and a self-taught web designer. I’m also in the beginning stages of developing my wellness and entertainment venture that can be found at MBSfrequency.club.
At the heart of everything I do is a desire to inspire others to express themselves freely and fearlessly. I’m proud of the way I use creativity to channel the good, the bad, and everything in between that life brings. The brands behind both of my businesses intertwine and complement one another, reflecting shared values of love, light, positive energy, authenticity, and self-awareness.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
We all have a story, and we all go through experiences that shape who we become. When I was 18 years old, my dad passed away. My inability to process and cope with that loss intensified struggles I was already battling, including severe depression and substance use disorder.
I had begun experimenting with alcohol and drugs in my pre-teen years, and depression had been present for as long as I could remember. Ironically, losing my dad also gave me what felt like a “good enough” reason to finally seek help for my mental health. I began seeing therapists and psychiatrists and started trying different medications, but at the same time, my addiction continued to progress.
For more than four years after his passing, I was consistently using hard drugs. None of the medications seemed to help, and I believed I was simply self-medicating to survive the pain. At that time, I truly felt that staying high was the only way I could cope.
Eventually, after reaching a place of complete desperation, I entered recovery. Choosing recovery transformed my life and my mindset. The music I was creating, the lifestyle I was living, and the way I saw myself all began to change. I stopped seeing myself as a victim of my pain and instead began to recognize the strength and light within me.
Through recovery, I was able to truly find myself and uncover the deeper purpose behind my life and my creativity.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
More than anything, I want to reach young people. I want to connect with them at the stage in life when they begin seeking validation outside of themselves—when they may start experimenting with substances, distancing themselves from who they truly are, or unknowingly self-medicating to cope with emotions they don’t yet understand.
I have a special place in my heart for the so-called “troublemakers,” because that was me. I was always goofing off in school and was often seen as a bad influence or labeled “crazy.” I know what it feels like to be misunderstood. For the kids who feel that same way, I want to be a voice they can relate to.
Looking back, I often think that if someone had truly understood what I was going through and helped me feel less alone, my path might have been a little easier. It wasn’t until college that I began meeting people who recognized creativity as my outlet and encouraged me to keep pursuing it.
Now, I want to offer that same encouragement to others. My goal is to speak life into early adolescents and empower them to turn inward—to build trust in themselves as they discover who they really are, what they want out of life, and what they feel called to offer the world.
