Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Samantha James. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Samantha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Sampul Dance is a business that is based on Culture, Family Atmosphere, and Community. We believe EVERYONE ages 9 months to adult should be given the chance and or opportunity to dance wether it be as a hobby or to some day become a professional in the industry. We feel it’s important to know our families and be sure they feel like our studio is a second home for them. We say loud and proud, “Come for dance & tumble, stay for community”
Samantha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Samantha James, I am the very proud Studio Owner of SAMPUL Dance Academy located in Chatsworth, CA where we offer Dance, Tumble, and Aerial classes, but most importantly I am a Mom to a beautiful baby boy and I’m a Wife! I have always known since a little girl I would want to open a dance studio to provide classes in the community for all. I began dancing at the age of 3 and haven’t looked back since. I have had the blessing of training in NYC, travel and train in other countries such as Africa and Europe, and most importantly to expand my skill set with incredible individuals in the industry. I am trained in several styles of dance and love to perform but my destiny was set to be a dance teacher and be an asset to the community. I love what I do and hope to continue inspiring the youth by providing a safe space for all.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We love connecting with new families on Social Media. Posting ads of our new classes with our awesome students faces has brought us great success and life long families. We notice that it’s not just about the ad but making it personal and showcasing exactly what our culture is and what we offer in one post. Some people truly don’t understand why dance cost what it does but once they are able to experience a free trial class 9 out of 10 times they book their slot, officially enroll, and respect and appreciate the service they are receiving. Its never about the cost, it’s about the skills, the professionalism of the instructors, and the atmosphere where they feel they belong. Belonging is important to showcase within your social media and honestly, anyone can say and post whatever they feel/believe on social media, but once the student and families enter the facility is when they can see it in action and where they choose us as their second home. We also enjoy posting success stories and showcasing our students growth throughout the season.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I love being “The Boss” but I also respect my team like no other and at the end of the day we are the exact same, my name is just on the sign. Building a strong team who believes in the same mission as you is what makes Sampul who we are. Being present, communicative, and understanding truly makes for a great leader who builds a fantastic team. I used to be the person who could DO IT ALL, and I sometimes I still think I can, but that’s when my team steps in and reminds me how awesome and professional they are and that they an handle whatever is thrown their way. End of story here is respect and communication makes for a successful leader, a fun yet processional atmosphere, and an awesome team representing you and your brand.
