What am I most proud of?? So far…I would have to say through all the good days, bad days, walking away from bad contracts, gaining new customers, loosing workers, passing out thousands of business cards by hand, experiencing wood shortage, covid 19, major spike in fuel prices, equipment shortages, and everything else that can happen in business, we’re still standing and growing everyday. I’m proud I chose to stick it through the storms and have an open mind to different
ventures/opportunities that can not only bring in revenue but bring value to our fellow customers.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
I started the pallet recycling division of the company back in July 2021 when the market was hit by a wood shortage. In a competitive market where I was new to pallet sales, I quickly had to adapt to the new environment and compete with pallet yards and scavengers. I have no experience on marketing, so I got some advice from a mentor of mine. After that…I mailed out flyers and passed out over three thousand business cards face to face within 8 months. There were moments were companies would turn down my services due to prices or expecting free service. Rejection is part of the game, not every encounter with a potential customer will be successful, there were several discouraging/overwhelming moments where i felt things wouldn’t work out but I understood the process and that every customer will not be your customer. Within a couple of months of determination and due diligence, we have had an major increase to our clientele.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Finding funding for my business was a journey. Unfortunately I couldn’t receive an PPP loan at the time to buy the proper equipment needed, so I had to rent uhual trucks in order to fulfill jobs. Savings got low and the business took a major hit once I had to battle with covid for almost a month last year . The workflow came to an complete hault and the very little customers I did have, had to outsource while I was out sick/recovering. Post covid, I had to get a part time job to catch up on bills and to keep the business up float until business picked back up. I would work the job from 2am- 9am then use the rest of the day passing out business cards trying to pick up new customers/business all over the metroplex. After months and months of hard work and savings my goal is to purchase a work truck and equipment and soon expand our fleet to create more jobs for the community.
