We recently connected with Richelle Nassos and have shared our conversation below.
Richelle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear your thoughts about family businesses.
Thoughts on a family business – what a loaded question. LOL I grew up watching my parents work together, then my brother; and only sibling started his own business and it just seemed normal to start my own with my soul mate. All of our 3 boys at one time or another have helped us out in our family business as well. It takes a strong couple to be able to work together and we have been blessed. It isn’t always easy; I would not be transparent if I told you that was the case. But with great determination, drive and a lot of faith in the Big Man upstairs…all things are possible. Peter and I have been working together successfully for almost 18 years now; where has the time gone?
Richelle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
It was back in 2000 ish that I came up with the idea for me4kidz (medical emergencies for kids). I wrote down the name and concept on a manilla folder and shoved it in a cabinet. Pete looked at me in 2002 and said let’s quit our jobs and start this company and in 2004 that is just what we did! Crazy; I mean the biggest guys in the industry were already doing first aid but no one was doing it like we imaged it should be done; focused around children and not the adult. We were newlyweds, just bought a house, no money in the bank to speak of – just a lot of love, energy and tons of determination and the support of our biggest fan; our good Lord and Savior.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I can’t tell you how many times we cut POs for inventory when we didn’t have the money in the bank and somehow by the grace of God I would drive down to the PO Box and there would be just enough money to pay our bills; He always provided!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Covid – the past 2 years would put anyone on their toes and that is just what it did for us. We had to PIVOT it became our focus, many of our main accounts closed their doors and we went from pushing our brand to pushing PPE and by sheer determination and willingness to survive and support our family we made it and actually became one of the Fastest Growing Company’s for Inc 5000 and ranked #346…..don’t think – JUST DO! We did it. Thank you Jesus…ALL Him as my license plate says.
