Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ariel Osbey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Ariel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses.
Serenity Housekeeping Services is a family business. I started this company to honor my grandmother who was a housekeeper for over 30 years. I have 2 children now, who I hope to pass the reigns to once they get older. My mother, who although she isn’t a housekeeper has been the biggest help to my business as she runs the HR department and she’s the one who had me up early Saturday mornings washing walls and baseboards, ha! My company would not exist if were not for family.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Ariel Osbey and I am housekeeper. I’ve been in the cleaning industry for 7 years and I’ve had Serenity Housekeeping Services up and running for almost 3 years in September. I started as a hotel housekeeper, working my way into hospital housekeeping before working in private homes for another company, and then eventually starting my own company in 2019. As a housekeeper I provide daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, and one time cleaning services, as well as organizational and mobile laundry services. My services are for those families or individuals who don’t have the time to keep up with their home, or just need a little push in the right direction. I’ve worked with clients with severe anxiety and depression to provide them with a clean home and peace of mind. When your space is clean you feel better and can do a lot more with your time besides thinking about that pile of laundry or unloading the dishwasher.
Serenity Housekeeping Services has come a long way from just an idea in my head. It makes me so happy when potential clients look at before and after photos of my work and want me to come make their life easier. My company is all about taking the stress away. When my clients come home from work I just want them to come in unwind and relax. Let Serenity take care of you!
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Before I started Serenity Housekeeping Services I was on the path to becoming a nurse and then going on to become a midwife. I just have this desire and passion for taking care of people, so being a nurse is the ideal career for me. I started cleaning homes to have more freedom in my schedule for classes and being with my daughter more. I had plenty experience in cleaning and already loved it so when business started to pick up and the clients started flowing in I kind of pushed my nursing dreams to the side. I’m still in school, just of course taking my time as I grow my business on a larger scale. It’s always been just me cleaning, so this year I’ve started hiring other housekeepers to help grow my company and so that I can focus on more on school and my family.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
March of 2020 not only changed the world, but it changed the way I ran my company. I had to figure out how to keep my daughter and I safe while still cleaning homes because even in the midst of a pandemic clients wanted their homes cleaned more than ever. PPE and cleaning supplies were hard to come by in the beginning. The slightest cough or sneeze scared everyone. It was a huge adjustment. However Serenity Housekeeping Services survived and thrived. Another huge adjustment my company had to go through was when I got pregnant again, but that’s another story for another time. Ha!
