We recently connected with Nanette Santos and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nanette thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
My life and professional career took a major turn when I tested positive for Covid-19, in 2021. Unbeknownst to me, the Universe/Creator was preparing me for a different journey to what I had planned for myself.
Covid-19 affected my health to an extent that I was no longer able to function normally or perform any type of employment duties, due to cognitive brain fog, memory issues, speech (stuttering), communication, and the simple day to day tasks. For Example, this article is only happening because a dear friend of mine, Ruby Steenkamp, has volunteered to assist me with sharing my story.
As mentioned, the Universe/Creator had other plans with my journey. Part of that plan was nudging me to pursue my spiritual roots of “Curanderismo” and to become certified in Reiki – today I am a Reiki Master Teacher.

Nanette, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am currently volunteer my spiritual gifts to others, the first Saturday of each month, at a Free Self-Care event, by doing Reiki sessions, “limpias” and spiritual clearings. These modalities have not been affected by my current disabilities, as the energy goes through me, and I am the conduit.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Life experiences has allowed me to understand the need of my hurting community, and by connecting with like-minded individuals, that are just as inspired as I am to help others with these needs. Though this is not a means of income, I am emotionally and spiritually rewarded by the results that the receipts experience when I allow the energy to flow through me to them.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
That “perfection” is not attainable, but “excellence” is. I could never distinguish the difference prior to my disabilities. At an early age, it was instilled in me to aim for perfection, now as I go through “long Covid” and I am learning to go easier on myself, by acknowledging the small victories I make even with my health limitations.
