Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nancy Sevilla. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nancy, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Through a decade of hard work and persistence, I’ve turned my creative endeavors into a full-time gig. I wear many hats, from blogging to managing social media, and now organizing group trips and running a monthly subscription community with a friend.
In a nutshell, making money doesn’t happen overnight. It’s about gaining experience and building a solid portfolio. I started with a fashion blog for fun, which eventually started generating income. This journey led me to grow my social media presence and collaborate with brands. Expanding into niches like travel, I’ve been living the solo travel life for the past three years and even started hosting profitable group trips worldwide. Recently, I launched a monthly subscription community for solo travelers and those on a spiritual self-discovery journey with my friend, Krista.
Pursuing your passion can lead to unexpected opportunities and help you discover your true calling. There’s no quick fix to success; it’s a journey that requires time and effort. People often only see the endpoint without realizing the dedication and hard work in between. Regardless of how long it takes, what matters is setting and achieving your goals and being proud of your accomplishments!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Nancy, originally from Chicago, IL, but I’ve spent 8 years in Los Angeles before embarking on a full-time solo travel adventure for the past 3 years. As an entrepreneur, I wear many hats – one of which is my blog, Fancy Nanc-ista, covers fashion, travel, and lifestyle topics. People often recognize me as a high-fashion enthusiast and a solo traveler (in style).
What sets me apart is my passion for connection and empowerment. I want to inspire others to be their best selves, whether it’s through fashion or solo travel.
Throughout this wild adventure, I’m most proud of what I’ve accomplished in the past few years. My dream of full-time travel became a reality, recently leading me to host global group trips and create a monthly subscription community called The Melanin Kollective with a good friend, Krista.
With my group trips, I aim to connect with like-minded people and encourage them to embark on their solo journeys with confidence. Even though you’ll be with others during the group trips, the experience can ignite a sense of independence within you.
Additionally, The Melanin Kollective focuses on empowering individuals, (mainly minority individuals) who are solo travelers and on their personal growth journey. My friend Krista and I wanted to provide a safe space for those seeking a supportive community where they can comfortably share their experiences and challenges.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
One of the most fulfilling aspects of being an artist and a creative is the knowledge that you’re able to inspire someone, even if it’s just one individual out there. It’s a feeling akin to pursuing my passion while simultaneously sharing my journey, motivating others to embrace their true selves or find the courage to (for instance) embark on solo adventures, and much more.
