We caught up with the brilliant and insightful William Deloney a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
William, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The story behind the brand is I wanted people to be encouraged and have something to hold onto in a world full of uncertainty. And that is their faith! From one illustration of a pregnant woman holding a galaxy in her womb, that one drawing gave birth to something that will grow into a Global Giant. This idea works because Divine Image Apparel stands out from the rest. I was brainstorming a problem that most clothing brands left out regarding original design ideas. What excites me about this brand is what defines the brand all in one.
I integrated my love for art, streetwear, and faith to create clothing encourages and inspires people to live their dreams.
William, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My passion for clothing, art, spirituality, and culture got me into doing this business. The type of products that I provide are clothing from t-shirts, shorts, hats, hoodies, jackets, and accessories. The problem I may solve for my customer is to ensure I can find the right design from my store that fits their style best. I use vibrant colors for my designs, and there will be a design in my store for mostly anyone who is bold in their faith and loves hip-hop fashion. My strong faith in God and my love for style sets me apart from other brands.
I am most proud of the feedback and attention I get from the average person on the streets to someone I may meet in church who may share the same interests. As a traditional illustrator, it is an honor when someone randomly asks me about my designs on my apparel.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I sell on my website; however, I plan to expand to Amazon or whatever online platform will assist in the growth of the company.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
I do not manufacture my clothing. I use an online print-on-demand manufacturer for my supplier. I found this particular company with the assistance of my wife in support of my dreams and ambitions. I learned that knowing about this manufacturer has made it easy for me to use it whenever I require new supplies and not to worry about inventory taking up space in my home. Print-on-demand is an excellent alternative for anyone with a lot of clothing supply and many options within their online store.
