We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nanakidme. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with nanakidme below.
Hi Nanakidme, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was young, both of my parents worked, so I often spent a lot of time at home by myself. Because of that, I naturally had to find ways to entertain myself, and at some point, I started drawing more and more on my own.
Whenever I was drawing, I would become completely immersed and lose track of time. I think that’s when I first realized that if I could turn something I truly enjoy and can fully focus on into my career, I would not only do well, but also feel genuinely happy doing it.

Nanakidme, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, I’m Nana, a tattoo artist working with an engraving-inspired style.
I’ve always been drawn to drawing, but I became especially interested in tattooing when I realized how meaningful it is to create something that lives on the body rather than on paper. That idea naturally led me to where I am today.
My work focuses on custom designs that combine fine linework, ornamental patterns, and symbolic storytelling. I’m particularly interested in exploring themes like “Myth and Reality,” as well as personal emotions and narratives, translating them into visual form.
Rather than creating purely decorative tattoos, I aim to make pieces that feel deeply personal and lasting. Many of my clients come to me with emotions or stories that are difficult to express in words, and I try to transform those into something they can carry with them.
What sets my work apart is the balance between structure and emotion. Each design is carefully composed to feel both detailed and organic, always tailored to the individual and never repeated.
What I value most is the trust my clients place in me. My goal is not just to create a tattoo, but to create something that becomes a meaningful part of the person over time.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
One of the most rewarding parts of being an artist for me is being able to turn something deeply personal into a lasting form.
Many of my clients come to me with memories they never want to forget—whether it’s a beloved pet, a family member, or a meaningful moment in their life. Being trusted to translate those emotions into a design, and expressing it through my own distinct style, makes the process even more meaningful to me.
What makes it truly special is when that personal story not only becomes a tattoo, but also a piece that genuinely resonates with the client. Seeing how happy they are when they first see it, and later hearing that they still love it after it has healed, is incredibly rewarding.
Moments like that remind me that what I create is not just an image, but something that becomes a part of their life.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I think I wish I had realized earlier the importance of experiencing more—seeing more, feeling more, and stepping outside of a limited perspective. In the beginning, I was creating within a relatively small world, without fully exploring what was out there.
Now, I try to be more intentional about seeking inspiration through real experiences, not just what I see on my phone. Spending time alone, reflecting, and observing the world more deeply has become an important part of my creative process.
Looking back, I feel that expanding my perspective has been essential in shaping my own voice and style as an artist.
