We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mychel Sullivan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mychel, appreciate you joining us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
My first dollar earned as a creative/designer came from an order of 60 t-shirts for a church youth club. It was a cool opportunity because it gave me the chance to design and edit the shirt logo, buy the supplies and materials, make the shirts myself using a heating press, and finally close the sale and meet the client’s expectations. Although it was a pretty big order and came with some tight deadlines, looking back it was definitely worth the headache and it was a great learning experience.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, I’m Mychel. I’m an artist, designer & creative and my mission is to share my style and vision with the world in as many different ways as I can. At the moment, this includes through painting, multi-media design, and clothing production. My focus for 2026 is on continuing to grow as an artist, finding new ways to connect with my target audience, and to use my gifts to help those around me.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The 2 most rewarding aspects of being an artist are seeing my ideas come to life in front of me, and then just realizing how ART truly makes the world go ‘round. In every room on the planet there’s a piece of art, in one form or another. Even when we step outside in nature there’s still art all around us. Being an artist gives me the opportunity to connect with anything and anyone in the world, which is pretty cool to think about.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The ultimate goal driving this journey is to create something truly timeless, something that will be remembered and cherished forever.
