Myah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?

Growing up, I had the privilege of being raised by two successful entrepreneurs who instilled valuable and memorable wisdom in me from as early as I can remember. My mom demonstrated that you must work hard for everything you want and that things must be earned and are not simply handed to you. Because of this, as soon as I turned 15 years old, I got my first job at a nail salon scheduling appointments with the sole mission of being able to afford a fresh set of nails at all times. Most of my earnings as a teenager were reinvested into my self-care: lashes, makeup, hair, and other personal upkeep. This is when I learned how deeply I value honest and reliable service providers that value your results, your time, and your hard-earned money.
As a solo business owner, there are many challenges we face alone. However, during uncertain times or moments of weakness in business, I often hear my parents’ guidance in my mind, especially after long workdays when my studio is a mess, homework is unfinished, my stomach is empty, and my motivation feels depleted. In moments like these, I revisit my dad’s pre-work lectures reminding me to always “clean better, work harder, and be kinder than everyone else.” He emphasized to me that regardless of what others do, you should always be the bigger person and do the right thing, no matter how difficult it may be.
My parents have greatly influenced my confidence in my strengths and capabilities as a business owner and have taught me never to neglect or underperform in my professional responsibilities. Their impactful lessons, combined with their ability to lead by example, continue to positively shape my ability to remain patient, ethical, and level-headed in my professional practice.

Hi, hun! My name is Myah Keller, and I am a registered nurse and Advanced Practice Aesthetician based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. I started Hunny Bunz Aesthetics over two years ago with the goal of providing smooth hair removal results and transformative intimate skincare treatments to individuals who value confidence-boosting and science-backed skincare treatments.
I first began my journey in makeup artistry, then transitioned into massage therapy before ultimately finding my passion in esthetics. Following certification, I made a split-second decision to further advance my career in aesthetics, where I gained experience experimenting with chemical skincare and electrical skincare modalities. Straight out of school, I began my professional career as a Cerologist at Waxing the City. Two years later, after learning that I had been accepted into nursing school, I decided to launch Hunny Bunz Aesthetics in hopes of supporting myself financially while completing my education. This marked the beginning of a deeper commitment to my craft as a solo entrepreneur and owner-operator.
Working independently strengthened my technical skills and gave me the confidence to develop my own protocols, methods, and services, therefore allowing me to further enhance the results my clients were receiving while simultaneously allowing myself the creative freedom to build niche services designed with my clientele at the forefront.

When I started my solo business after leaving my previous waxing position, I had never rented a space before or fully learned the operational side of running a business. At the very same time, I was also stepping into an entirely new chapter of my life, beginning my journey toward becoming a nurse. For some time, I had known that my passion for skincare extended far beyond surface-level treatments. While meaningful improvements can certainly be achieved at the skin level, I believe even more profound and lasting results are possible through advanced and more invasive therapies, offering greater benefits for clients with real and complex skin concerns.

Seven days before beginning nursing school, I officially launched my business on January 1, 2024. While many people were focused on holiday celebrations and welcoming the New Year, I was preparing my 8-by-10-foot studio space in West Saint Paul to welcome my very first clients as a solo business owner and operator.

Business ownership has taught me invaluable lessons about prioritizing long-term goals over feelings of FOMO and about the sacrifices required to build something meaningful. While many assume business owners create their own schedules, the reality is often quite different. Beauty professionals often work when life is busiest for everyone else, and dedicating weekends, evenings, and holidays to clients and to the growth of a business requires humility, discipline, and gratitude. Balancing these responsibilities while also being a full-time nursing student (along with the obligations and challenges that come with it) leaves little room to stray from the plan. The reality of pursuing my goals, combined with the consistent effort required along the way, has strengthened my resilience and reinforced my commitment to the path I’ve chosen.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

What has helped me most in building my reputation within my sphere has been consistently respecting people’s time, making a genuine effort to follow up and ask for feedback, and providing reliable, all-encompassing service experience. These core operational values continue to stand out to new clients through word of mouth and through the way the brand reflects its morals and integrity.

I believe it can be challenging, especially for newer aestheticians or business owners, to ask for feedback and truly listen with the intention of improving. For me, client input is an essential part of growth and an opportunity to refine the experience I provide every day. There is also significant intention placed in the details, allowing each service to be customized and tailored to the individual.

I do not approach every appointment with identical methods or energy, because being a specialist requires both knowledge and adaptability. The ability to work with different skin types, concerns, and personalities is essential in delivering meaningful results. My versatility and dedication to continuously improving my craft are what help set my work apart in the market.
