We caught up with the brilliant and insightful MJ Holman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

MJ, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?

Misunderstanding comes with the territory.
If you’re a real musician with real conviction, not everybody will “get” you.

But I refuse to shrink who I am just to be understood by people who were never meant to understand me.

Being a musician in ministry isn’t just about playing—it’s about posture, heart, and purpose.

And sometimes… you can still be misunderstood while serving faithfully.
Mischaracterized, overlooked, even questioned.

But God knows the intent behind every note.
So I’ll stay committed, even when I’m not fully understood.

MJ, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I started playing the piano at the age of 6 and ever since there it took off . I would help my city and play and minister with different churches, I even had the opportunity to work with alot of different gospel artist untill I got an opportunity to work for Bishop Marvin Sapp . After transitioning my career took a major tol in a good way . I tell people all the time , if you keep God first he literally will give you the desires of my heart and the truth is I take God everywhere I go with me and that’s what makes me stand out .

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect of being an a creative and is number 1 , God always getting the glory . But what really touches me is that someone always I feel the passion through my music and that what’s really rewarding . People can compliment you all day long but if people can really feel what you do , thats a different kind of feeling .

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

The goal is simple . I don’t know everything and will never know everything. But again , the main goal is keep God first . But ultimately., the goal is to inspire and be a game changer
