We were lucky to catch up with Megan Marshall recently and have shared our conversation below.
Megan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I actually didn’t start the company but I did feel as though the concept needed to expand and grow into a new direction. I think the hardest part for me was taking on something that already existed and thrn putting my spin on it and hoping people would still want to be a part of it. The biggest thing I wanted to do was create new events that didn’t exist already. Turning an idea into an actual thing was super terrifying but super exciting all at the same time. I felt like I had a pretty good grasp on how to run an event but how to create one from start to finish was new to me and that’s the thing that drove me to really jump full in and see what this company could be.

Megan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Megan Marshall. I was born and raised in Leawood Kansas. I attended High School at Notre Dame de Sion and college at the University of Missouri, Columbia. I got my major in school for Fashion and Business and used that for a good while until this opportunity presented itself. I felt like I was creative and had the business mind to run this business! I hd been on the other side before and I thought it would be fun to do this side! My business really tries to help other businesses thrive by giving them another outlet besides their storefronts or online stores to make money and get in front of customers they may not normally see. I always say that the thing that sets my business apaart from my competitors is our attention to detail and the fact that we always try to create an experience. It’s not just a shopping event you are coming to! The thing I am most proud of my team and I for is the hard work we put into every show, the love we have for our vendors and the pure joy we get from seeing them excel and grow themselves. I want people to know that you are not just signing up for another event when you do one of our shows, you are getting your name out there in a whole new way and we make sure that we market you in a way that no one else does! Farfalla Events is here to stay and keep making magic for our city and we love getting to work with so many amazing companies!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think the biggest thing that has helped our reputation is the our attitudes about these shows. I think we always stay positive and try to look at the bigger picture. I think our communication skills are top of the line in this industry as well and most importantly our vendors come first and we are always trying to think of ways to make our events about them and how they can grow and succeed.

Can you talk to us about your experience with buying businesses?
The business I have now, I actually purchased from a friend. I met her back when I actually owned my own Women’s retail store and we stayed in touch. I was about to have my third baby and I didn’t know if I wanted to work full time and Aimee had come to me saying she was thinking about selling her business so I jumped all in! The process was wonderful. I first asked my husband what he thought and then my parents and then jumped on a call with our financial advisor to see his thoughts. Everyone seemed to think the numbers were good and the business model was there so I went for it. The process was great and that was mostly in part to Aimee who really trained me and guided me in the right direction. To this day we are still friends and funny enough, we are on the same Real Estate team!
