We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Luke Sutton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Luke below.
Luke, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I started off as an actor in 2017. When you start as an actor, you are at the very bottom until you build your way up. After a few speaking roles, I started to realize that I didn’t really have a say in the roles I was auditioning for. So I decided that I wanted to write scripts for roles that I thought I might be interested in.
Then Covid hit in 2020. I had lost 2 jobs in the span of a 6 weeks. I decided early 2020 to enroll in a film school, Regent University. I learned high level about the production process with some classes in screen writing. I graduated in 2023.
I decided that I still wanted to be an actor so I attended acting classes at Nashville Acting Studio.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve lived in many small towns growing up. I have also worked in large cities such as Wilmington, DE, and Nashville, TN.
I used to think that living in a small town was a curse. Then, I thought it taught me that I had to think that much bigger. Think outside the box. But I’m glad I was exposed to both.
I had 3 college degrees including an MBA but I still wasn’t doing what I really wanted to do. I started acting and then writing scripts and thought this is what I really want to do. It took me till my fourties to realize this.
I’ve spent most of time working on my own projects. One, just because I like working on my own ideas and projects. Two, I find that I’ve learned a lot working my own projects. I can make a mistake and learn from it for the next project.
My goal is to offer my services to clients in the near future.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I’m really focused on doing what it takes to get better. I am a student so I’m always trying to learn things about the entertainment industry. I think most film creatives, the goal is to get into the 1%. But I would be happy working in the film industry and just loving what I do and surviving.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I was a non-creative at once. I guess I should say my creativity was limited to the sports world. That creative intuition you have on the basketball court or soccer field. It’s hard as a creative to be motivated and inspired all the time. There are times where I want to sit down and write something as I have the time but the creative process just doesn’t work that way. There are times I will be busy doing something else and then ideas and creativity just kick in and I have to stop what I’m doing. Take out a pen and write it done.
