We were lucky to catch up with Kyra Leeigh recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kyra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
I still remember how everything started, and honestly it wasn’t anything super planned. A friend asked me to do their website and I had zero experience at all, but I just said yes and figured it out as I went. While I was working on it, I ended up falling in love with designing without even realizing it at first.
After that, someone else reached out to me for a website and a thank you card design, and that’s when it started to feel real because it wasn’t just a friend anymore. Somebody trusted me enough to actually pay me for it.
That first dollar meant everything to me. It wasn’t even about the money, it was more like confirmation that I could really do this.
From there, it just snowballed. One person led to another, more people started reaching out, and I kept building and getting better. I went from trying something new to realizing this could really be my business.
It all really started from me just saying yes, even though I had no idea what I was doing.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Kyra, and I’m the face behind Graphics by Leeigh. I’m a self-taught designer who honestly got into this by accident. What started as me saying yes to creating a website with zero experience turned into something I genuinely fell in love with. From there, I kept learning, practicing, and taking on more clients, and it naturally grew into a full business.
I specialize in branding and design for service-based businesses—things like logos, e-flyers, websites (Wix and Shopify), booking sites, and print materials like business cards and thank you cards. I also create editable templates for beauty professionals and other entrepreneurs who want to elevate their brand but still have flexibility. My goal is to help people show up professionally and confidently online and in person.
A lot of my clients come to me because they feel stuck or all over the place with their branding. They may have a business but don’t feel like their visuals match the level they’re trying to reach. I help bring clarity, consistency, and a polished look to their brand so they can attract the right audience and actually feel proud of what they’re putting out. It’s more than just “making something cute”—it’s about making sure their brand communicates value.
What sets me apart is how personal I make the experience. I really take time to understand each client’s vision, their goals, and the audience they’re trying to reach. I’m not just designing for aesthetics, I’m designing with purpose. I also keep things real and transparent—I started with no experience, so I understand what it feels like to build from the ground up, and I bring that same energy into helping my clients grow.
One of the things I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come and how many people I’ve been able to help along the way. Going from not knowing anything about design to serving hundreds of clients a year is something I don’t take lightly. I’ve built a brand that people trust, and that means everything to me.
The main thing I want people to know about me and my brand is that I’m passionate about what I do and about the people I work with. I genuinely want to see my clients win. When you work with me, you’re not just getting a design—you’re getting someone who cares about your business, your growth, and how you show up. And everything I create reflects that.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Honestly, the biggest thing for me has been consistency and letting my work speak for itself. I stay active on social media, posting my designs, client transformations, and results so people can really see the value.
Word of mouth has also played a huge role—clients repost, refer others, and that keeps new people coming in. I also focus on being real and sharing my journey, which helps people connect with me.
On top of that, I make my process simple and easy to book, which makes a big difference. Overall, it’s been a mix of consistency, quality work, and genuine connections.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My best source of new clients has definitely been social media, especially Instagram. Posting consistently, showing my work, and highlighting client results brings in a lot of inquiries.
Right behind that is word of mouth. Clients sharing their designs, tagging me, and recommending me to others has brought in so many new people. Those referrals usually turn into really solid clients too.
So overall, a mix of social media visibility and client referrals has been the biggest driver for my growth.
