We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kris Castilon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kris below.
Kris, appreciate you joining us today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
Going from idea to execution is pure passion. Wanting to create and finding it important enough to do so. There’s also been times, where I have attempted to execute a self portrait idea and it not go the way I envisioned. For example, I really wanted to have people swimming in tea cups for a couple of years, before I actually did it and did it WELL. Beyond what I thought I was capable of, I surprised myself with consistency, hard work, and devotion to learning how to better my skill. Patience and giving yourself grace is a huge part, being mean to yourself is you standing in your own way. Follow the learning curve.

Kris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My very creative and extremely fun aunt, ran a daycare I worked at growing up. And
during nap-time, I would sometimes be beside her while she would write blogs, take photographs or make crafts. Watching her write and take pictures inspired me, lit a fire up my ass if you will. I was 14 at the time and for my 15th birthday, I asked for a zoom-out red camera from Walmart. It was there when I started to get the urge to take photos, to act on my imagination. It would take great detail photos of the moon too, which made me feel like such a professional. Eventually as I got older I hit a wall, I wanted to bring my imagination to life. How could I make the impossible, “dreamworld”, possible? Exactly like illustration, but with photographs? That is when I decided to enroll at Nossi College Of Art, where I learned how to story-tell and digitally collage in photoshop. My curiosity was unlocked!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Sometimes business doesn’t come to you and you have to go to it. Advertise and put yourself out there! And it is so worth it every single time and you owe it to yourself to believe that you are worthy.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to inspire others and take them away from their troubles for just a couple of seconds. That’s what art is for anyways, to connect to someone without saying anything at all, a powerful message can touch a heart you’ve never even met ❤️
