We recently connected with Katris Wright and have shared our conversation below.
Katris, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken in my life was moving to another state with my family, leaving behind everything and everyone that was familiar.
I was born and raised in Charlotte North Carolina. Charlotte was home in every sense of the word! Lol My family was there, my friends were there, and my support system surrounded me. It was a place where I felt rooted and secure. I had built relationships over many years, and there was a comfort in knowing that if I needed anything, someone was always close by. I always felt safe.
Then came the moment where my husband and I felt led to move. Honestly, we knew deep down that a big move “ONE day” would be a requirement to grow and expand into our destiny but one day always seems far off, until THE day comes. Lol
When the day arrived, we definitely did not have everything lined up. No job, no guaranteed network and only hopes of a place waiting for us. In many ways, we were stepping into the unknown. It was all by FAITH.
The risk wasn’t just moving our belongings across state lines to Texas but it was leaving behind the familiarity of a place where I was known, supported, and established.
When we made the decision, I remember thinking about how different life would look. And I felt very excited yet still not quite sure about how I felt about starting over again. Like, there were no guarantees
In Charlotte, I didn’t have to start from scratch. Opportunities and relationships had grown naturally over time. But moving meant rebuilding. It meant introducing ourselves again, creating new connections, and trusting that the same God who guided us would also sustain us. For real!
There were moments during that transition where reality set in. Starting over in a new place requires humility and courage. You have to be willing to walk into rooms where no one knows your story yet. You have to build relationships one conversation at a time. It stretched me in ways I didn’t expect.
But that risk also strengthened something in me. It deepened my faith, strengthened my family, and reminded me that sometimes growth requires leaving comfort behind. I learned that when you step into unfamiliar territory, you also discover new parts of yourself that were waiting to emerge.
Looking back, I can say that the risk didn’t just change where we lived… it changed how I see purpose, people and the way I live. Moving taught me that sometimes the greatest growth happens when you’re willing to leave the familiar and believe that the next chapter is waiting on the other side of your courage.
It’s been the best decision ever! I’m currently still enjoying seeing the new area, meeting new people and building new relationships with alignment with my purpose. It’s definitely been a stretch and I feel myself growing and building new muscles for a new assignment in life!

Katris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Of course, I’m Katris Wright aka Ms.Pillowtalks .
I’m a media personality, podcast host, spokesperson, author, and talent coach who is passionate about helping people find their voice and show up confidently in the spaces they are called to. I host the nationally syndicated radio show Pillow Talks on iheartradio , where we create meaningful conversations that inspire, educate, and uplift listeners.
My work surrounds talent, media, storytelling, and personal development.
My journey into media and coaching really grew out of my love for serving and inspiring others while having connection. I’ve always been someone who enjoys bringing people together and creating environments where stories can be shared authentically.
Over time, that passion evolved into hosting interviews, covering red carpet events, and developing platforms where voices and faces that may not always be heard or seen have an opportunity to shine in a positive light!
Through my work in media, I’ve had the opportunity to interview artists, filmmakers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. These conversations have shown me how powerful storytelling can be when it’s done with intention. That’s what inspired me to expand my work into coaching and consultation within the entertainment and media industries.
Today, I work with talent, creatives, models, actors, artists and emerging voices who want to build their presence, strengthen their message, and position themselves professionally in the public space. My coaching focuses on talent development, business development, and reputation and crisis management. I help individuals learn how to navigate interviews, communicate clearly, and present themselves confidently whether they are on camera, on stage, or building their personal brand.
In addition to media and coaching, I’m also an author. One of my books, Mom’s Blueprint by God’s Design, was created to support parents in building strong bonds with their children while growing in confidence as caregivers. My background includes more than twenty years of experience in childcare and family development, including working as an Infant Care Night Nurse and supporting families through early childhood development. That experience gave me a deep understanding of how guidance, structure, and encouragement can transform lives from the very beginning.
What sets my work apart is that I approach everything from a place of purpose and authenticity. Through media, coaching, and writing, I get to help people step into new levels of confidence and clarity about who they are and what they bring to the world.
For anyone discovering my work for the first time, I want them to know that my brand is built on authenticity, faith, and empowerment. I believe that every person has a story worth telling and a purpose worth pursuing. My role is to help create the space where those stories can be heard and where people feel equipped to walk boldly in the direction they are meant to go.
I stay ready!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe one of the biggest things that has helped me build my reputation is my integrity. In an industry where it can be easy to overpromise or try to be everything to everyone, I’ve learned the importance of being honest about who I am and what I can deliver.
There’s a model my husband and manager, Davayan Wright, shared with me early on that has stayed with me: never overpromise and underdeliver. That principle has guided how I approach every opportunity….whether I’m hosting, coaching, or creating content. I would rather be consistent and exceed expectations than create an image that I can’t sustain.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, absolutely. My creative journey is deeply rooted in purpose. At the center of everything I do is a mission to help people recognize the power of their voice and feel confident showing up as their authentic selves.
Whether I’m hosting, coaching, or creating content, my goal is to create spaces where people feel seen, heard, and empowered. I believe that everyone has a story worth telling, but not everyone feels equipped or confident enough to share it. My work is about helping bridge that gap.
A big part of my mission is also centered around authenticity. In a world where it’s easy to follow trends or compare journeys, I’m intentional about encouraging people to stay true to who they are. That’s something I live by myself. I don’t just teach it! I walk it out daily, even as I continue to grow and evolve.
My faith in God plays a major role in how I approach my creative journey. I truly believe that the platforms I’ve been given are assignments, and I don’t take that lightly. Whether I’m on a stage, behind a microphone, or working one-on-one with a client, I see it as an opportunity to serve, uplift, and make a meaningful impact.
Ultimately, my goal is bigger than just building a brand. It’s about building people. If my work helps someone gain clarity, confidence, or the courage to take their next step, then I know I’m walking in my purpose.
