We were lucky to catch up with Kaleb Hayden recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kaleb thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Honestly, it’s for multiple reasons behind my business idea. I’ve always wanted my own business after watching my grandmother run her own for nearly 30 years. I was into a different style of dressing, and we didn’t really have much of that here in Mississippi, so I figured I’d make them myself. I feel like I’ve had my ideas and plans for owning a business for a long time.
One day I saved some money and found a website where I could customize shirts and buy them in bulk. I ordered about 15–20 with my design on them no sample or anything, I just took the risk. I posted them on all my socials with me wearing the shirt, showing the front and back. I was surprised to see how many people liked it and were ready to purchase. From there, I think I was fueled even more to chase my dream job.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Kaleb, the owner of Divergent Kids an eye-catching, loud, and different streetwear brand that’s on the rise. Divergent Kids represents growth, love, and peace. We aren’t afraid to show both the good and the bad, because life is about realization, balance, and learning from every experience. What sets us apart from many other brands is our purpose. A lot of brands focus only on selling products to make money, but Divergent Kids is more than that it’s a family and a movement. Every piece we create is designed to stand out and help people express themselves with confidence and individuality.
What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come, especially when it comes to managing money, making decisions, and growing as a business owner. Building something you truly want to succeed takes hard work, patience, and sacrifice. It’s not as easy as it may seem, but the journey has taught me a lot. I want all my future followers and clients to know that I’m constantly working to bring new ideas and new pieces to life, always making sure each design carries the originality and differentiation that makes Divergent Kids unique.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Even though I’m still in the process of building, my best advice is to keep posting every day whatever little content you can. You never know who might see it and become interested in buying or supporting your brand. Posting consistently helped take my brand a long way. Don’t be scared of your ideas let them fly.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
College has brought me a great crowd of clients that I really appreciate. I love seeing people walking around campus wearing my brand as well. It motivates me even more to keep building and growing.
