We recently connected with Alo Fails and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
As a self-taught artist, creativity has always been part of who I am. I took art classes growing up, but most of what I know today came from studying techniques and learning from others online. My passion for art goes back as far as I can remember even drawing on my mom’s furniture as a kid.
My first dollar from my creative work came after I started putting my business cards everywhere I could, Dunkin’ Donuts and other local spots. A few weeks later, I received a message asking if I could create a custom album cover. I remember my eyes getting wide with excitement. I immediately told my wife and called my mom to share the news.
The project was special because it told the client’s story through the items and ideas they shared with me. At first, I was extremely nervous and kept critiquing myself because it was my first major custom piece. I even considered telling them to find another artist. But in that moment, I was reminded that God gave me a unique creativity that deserved to be shared. Out of all the artists they could have chosen, they chose me.
When I finally sent the mockup, my heart was beating out of my chest waiting for their response. Then the message came: “This is so dope and more than I ever expected.” I was relieved and proud knowing I delivered exactly what they wanted.
When they asked for the invoice and made the payment, that moment became one of my proudest milestones. The first dollar I earned from my art and the moment I realized I could truly build something from my creativity.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My artist name is Alo Fails, and I’m a self-taught artist, content creator, meal prepper, and motivator who is currently documenting my health and transformation journey. Creativity has always been a major part of my life. While I took art classes growing up, most of my development came from teaching myself, studying techniques online, and constantly pushing my creativity to grow.
For me, art goes far beyond drawing and painting. I believe creativity exists in everything I do from custom artwork and murals to meal prepping, creating seasoning blends, and producing content that shares my journey with others. Through my brand Never Fails Kustomz, I bring people’s ideas and visions to life through custom designs, murals, sip-and-paint events, coloring experiences, and other creative gatherings that allow people to reconnect with their inner child and express themselves freely.
I’m also passionate about cooking and meal prepping because I see food as another form of art. The colors, flavors, and presentation allow me to express creativity in a completely different way.
What sets me apart is the genuine energy and authenticity I bring to everything I create. I lead with faith, keep God first, and believe my creativity is a gift meant to inspire others. My mission is simple: help people embrace who they truly are, tap into their creativity, and realize that their gifts are meant to be shared with the world.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is the joy I’m able to bring to others. Whether it’s through my artwork or helping bring someone’s vision to life, seeing their excitement and connection to the piece is incredibly fulfilling. I also love hearing people’s stories and learning the meaning behind what they want created. Understanding their background allows me to see things from a new perspective and create something that truly represents them. One of my personal taglines is spreading love, light, and art, and I strive to do that in everything I create. By embracing my own unique and sometimes “weird” style, I hope to inspire others to be confident and unapologetically themselves.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The mission that drives my creativity is proving to myself that negativity and doubt don’t define my path. When others project their opinions or doubts onto me, I use my creativity as a way to rise above it and show what’s truly possible. I believe God is using me as a vessel to share my story through my art and inspire others along the way. My work may not always be loud or carry a direct message, but it’s vibrant, fun, and often gives people a moment to escape their worries. Sometimes my pieces don’t even have a specific meaning to me, but the beauty is seeing how others interpret them and the conversations that come from it. At the heart of everything I do is a simple mission: walk by faith, create without fear, and use my gifts to bring positivity and encouragement to others.
