We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Julie a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Julie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I didn’t really come up with the idea in a strategic way. Things happened quite naturally.
Since I was very young, I’ve always wanted to do something related to drawing. So I simply opened the doors that appeared in front of me. At some point I started working as a freelancer without really overthinking it, and I’ve been working this way for about 14 years now.
Looking back, I realize that in an indirect way I probably pushed everything in that direction. My way of being is not really compatible with the structure of a standard work environment, so building my own path was almost inevitable.
Things developed slowly and organically. I never had a precise plan or a clearly mapped-out project. It was more a matter of following opportunities as they came.
A big part of it was also luck through the people I met along the way, and the fact that every time an opportunity appeared, I gave everything to turn that chance into a lasting relationship.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those who may not know my work, I’m a visual artist working at the intersection of collage, illustration, and graphic composition.
My approach is based on a simple idea: the product exists, but imagination is what sells it.
I create visual worlds where products and brands are staged through sensitive, original compositions that are immediately recognizable. My work mixes collage, drawing, textures, and graphic elements to build images that feel both crafted and contemporary.
My goal is to give brands a strong visual identity that brings more impact to their collections, objects, or printed materials. I’m particularly interested in creating images that go beyond simple promotion and instead build a visual atmosphere around a product.
I collaborate with brands, creative studios, and entrepreneurs who are looking for unique visuals for campaigns, packaging, editorial objects, or patterns intended for textiles. My work is often about translating an idea, a mood, or a story into a visual language that can live across different mediums.
What I’m most proud of is having built a recognizable visual universe over time, while keeping a very hands-on and experimental way of working. My practice has grown organically, and I’ve always tried to stay close to what I enjoy most, drawing, composing images, and creating worlds that people can connect with.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been, first and foremost, not spreading myself too thin with my offer. It’s crucial to be very clear about what I provide, what it brings to clients, which market I’m targeting, and whether there’s actually a market with the financial means for it. In short, making sure the offer is clear and that the market exists and can afford it.
Once that’s defined, it’s about aligning all channels with that strategy: refining my image, my visual universe, making everything coherent and instantly understandable, people simply don’t have the time to guess.
Finally, it’s about talking about your work everywhere, even to people who aren’t directly connected to your industry or niche. You never know where opportunities or referrals will come from, and consistent communication helps your audience recognize and remember your offer.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
What has allowed me to keep going despite the instability that sometimes made me want a more “classic” and stress‑free job is simple: being an artist was never an option for me—it’s essential, it’s vital. I need to create; it’s not just a choice, it’s who I am. That conviction kept me pushing forward, taking risks, and building a path that fits me, even when the path was uncertain.
