Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jubie Nash. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jubie, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
One of first time I knew that music was something I was good at was back when I got suspended in High School for a diss track. Me and one of my homies was chillin in the back waiting to get picked up, and there was this female that like to “pop her gums.” So my homie says something to her and their immediately start going back and forth talking s*** and I chime in laughing and she start grilling me. So now all of us in the back going at it and she ends up getting picked up and me and my homie sit there like we not gonna let her get away wit this. So I bring up the idea of a diss track (yes self snitching) and I go home and start writing my verse. The next day we get to school and link up wit the same homie and he ain’t got nothing down on the the song, so I end up having to ghostwriting his verse too and we go record it at lunch at the school studio. Mind you THE SCHOOL STUDIO! We record the song and we show a couple people, and then that couple people turn to a couple more people, then it end up going around so much that the girl’s mom end up hearing it and calls the school. Now I’m getting called into the office next day to the principal and she got the song and all our recording pulled up. Luckily my homie didn’t go to school that day so I took most of the heat since I did write the whole thing. But she did tell me that it was good and that I had potential and even though it was “vulgar” and “inappropriate” she seeing my creative ability. From that day on no student at Helix Charter High School is allowed to record at that studio unless it’s school related and now they got it set up to were all the files you record goes straight to admin when you done. So let’s just say I left my mark there.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m JubieNash an artist and one of co-founders of BTD Productions born and raised in San Diego, Ca working on breaking San Diego out of its box and making this place as big LA and the Bay. Me and whole lot of other Daygo artist are on the rise and trying to grow organically to not only come up and feed our families but also put the city on the map. San Diego is full of diversity and creativity and the music this city produces is top tier we just don’t get the same exposure and love as other city’s. My goal is to not only come up but to bring my team and my city along with me. It took a village to raise me and I’m going to take that same village with me everywhere I go. And when I get to the top I wanna make a label for San Diego artist and get them the proper exposure and avenues they need to shine also to keep the city up and prospering.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The best thing for society to do to support local artist is simply like, comment, and share they post. Those three things not only help boost artist confidence but also helps them market to other people outside their circle. The more you like the artist the more you should try to help see them win just like the other big artist that we support that don’t know us.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to create something that last a lifetime. I know when I leave this earth my music and other business ventures are going to last forever. I think the more people think about music in that sense the more their going to appreciate it.
