Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jodi Plett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jodi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
When I first thought of the concept of a Remote Assistant, I was working as an in-house executive assistant to multiple C-Suite executives, who also had offices in other states besides the corporate office. I set up a VOIP system and Remote Desktops in each of the office locations, as well as the executive’s homes. I also had one set up in my own house, as I often worked after hours. Why not set this up for others so that we can have flexibility in our schedules?
I knew FlexKeeper as a whole would work because the services, we offer are time management and deadline driven. This means it doesn’t matter what time you work as long as it is done before the deadline. Before COVID, working from home wasn’t really acceptable. My biggest roadblock in getting new clients was them not understanding that I am just a phone call or text away. I would explain that if I was physically in their office, they wouldn’t get up to come to my desk whenever they needed something, they would call me. We have been ahead of the game for 12 years now with this different approach, and fortunately, we are now all seeing the true potential and benefits of work from home. We are giving flexibility to our employees as well as our clients. This is the best of both worlds.

Jodi , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I grew up in Oregon and moved to South Florida in 2000. I got into my industry by being a corporate executive assistant. I progressed into my career where I eventually supported multiple executives in various locations. My business today offers many of the services I was doing in the office, such as admin support, bookkeeping, tax prep, and more. We love being our client’s problem solvers. No matter what industry our clients are a part of, we always find a way to help them out. We are set apart from others because we have been doing the work from home life for over a decade and have already figured out how to streamline this as a company with our clients. I am most proud of rebranding my company to FlexKeeper in 2021 at my company’s 10-year anniversary. I want potential clients to know that we view them as partners first and foremost. We value and cheer their successes. We are always looking for strategic alliances and how we can help our clients grow to reach the next level. We strive to build up companies to the point where they need to hire full-time professional staff.
When we rebranded to FlexKeeper, the octopus became our new logo because it represented our core values at FlexKeeper. These values are based on an actual octopus. Octopuses have three hearts, and our company shows empathy and passion towards the work we do. Octopuses have multiple arms, and nine brains, representing that we can independently juggle multiple things at once. The octopus bleeds blue blood. Blue is a symbol of trust, and we are here to maintain the confidentiality of your business. Our mission at FlexKeeper is to automate the entrepreneur. We help small businesses grow by providing a remote team to support these businesses and focus on growing their businesses as they always envisioned.

Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
We started by providing executive admin services. We eventually settled on our niche in bookkeeping, and we are now branching out to tax preparation and Business Financial Services.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Our best source of new clients are our current clients. We also work closely with CPA Firms that provide us with referrals and trust us with their own clients to provide bookkeeping services. Lastly, participating in networking groups such as BNI International and local Chamber of Commerce.
