We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica Youngson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.
Jessica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
I cannot narrow my heroes down to just one. I have two heroes in my life, my grandma who I call Kobu and my Grandaddy. They both are very creative souls. Kobu is an artist as well as a photographer who photographs primarily abstracts and landscapes. She was the one who inspired me to pick up my first camera and start clicking away. My Grandaddy inspired me to be creative and have fun and bought me my first DSLR camera. He was a carpenter and had a whole wood working workshop in the garage. Whenever I went over to my grandparents’ house he would let me watch him work and encouraged me to make stuff as well. When he wasn’t in the workshop, he would be on the computer printing off coloring pages for me. I have learned so much from both of them. One of the main lessons would have to be, just be yourself. Follow your heart and your passions and give it your all. They have always believed in me and never let me give up on myself. Without them, I don’t know what I would have ended up doing, but I am glad they led me in the creative direction!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Hello! I am Jessica Youngson, the owner of Youngson Photography. I pride myself in capturing authentic moments while having fun during the photoshoot! I let my clients be silly and play around with each other so I can get the most authentic smiles! I do help my clients with their wardrobes if they need assistance. I typically recommend neutral colors that won’t take away from those gorgeous faces. When you book a session, we will discuss what it is you are looking for, from location to type of session. I offer family, branding, senior and military ceremony sessions.Once booked, I send all my clients a questionnaire to fill out. This questionnaire helps me to see what you and your family are like, what your interests are, and your personalities! I am a natural light photographer who loves to capture that gorgeous golden hour glow! Something that I have just opened up is my print shop. Now clients can print their pictures directly from their galleries and the pictures will be delivered straight to their doorstep!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for me would have to be the response from my clients. I love being able to give them photos that they will enjoy for a life time.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My husband is active duty military, so we move around a lot. Anytime we move, I loose my clients. We have moved four times now and it is the most aggravating situation. As soon as we get comfy and I start getting loyal clients I have to move and restart. However, with every move I never give up on my dream. I start advertising on facebook groups, go to local meet ups, and start introducing myself in the community. I have bad anxiety so I am constantly pushing myself to step out behind the curtain and market myself and my skills. It has been a journey for sure, but I am proud of how far I have grown and look forward to growing more!
